Re: HCYBOC
What a great selection of meals !
We've just had left overs for the 2nd time for tea, all gone now.

Re: HCYBOC
You lot are all too posh, I had some air fried sausages for Christmas dinner because I was aggressively not in the mood for doing Christmas for reasons I won't bore you with, but are fine.
I've been a bit more chipper since then
but I did go "well, fuck it" and picked up £40 of Wagyu steaks from M&S, and did them at "oh shit oh fuck" temps, three minutes aside with a bit of salt as seasoning, and I've decided that everyone who frenetically wanks themselves into a frenzy over Wagyu steak is suffering serious buyers remorse - I mean it was nice, but not 'three times the price' nice. Like, by a wide margin.
Might do a roast tomorrow if I can be arsed - maybe Monday.
We'll see.....

Don’t get me wrong Beany, we have a mahooosive Griswold Family Christmas every year but if I were single, I wouldn’t put up a tree, a decoration, wouldn’t recognise any Yuletide at all.
I fucking HATE Christmas to a degree that cannot be put into words. But I celebrate through gritted teeth every year because… well… family.

Well don’t cook them 3 minutes aside with a bit of salt then and you would notice a difference.Beany wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2024 9:53 pm You lot are all too posh, I had some air fried sausages for Christmas dinner because I was aggressively not in the mood for doing Christmas for reasons I won't bore you with, but are fine.

You can make a cheap steak taste really nice and you can make a Wagyu taste like crap. I don’t cook Wagyu rare but I do cook a cheapy Tesco Ribeye rare.
Dave!
Re: HCYBOC
IMO Wagyu is too rich for a whole steak. I think it's best enjoyed in little lumps, teppanyaki or yakiniku style

I'm pretty sure that for the purposes of trade descriptions etc, the M&S stuff is """Waygu""", but it's far from the hypermarbled stuff you see on the interwebs - it's just a slightly more marbled cut of meat than the usual, frankly.
It's maybe worth 30-50% more than a regular supermarket steak, but it's absolutely not worth what M&S charge for it (twenty quid for a 300g steak
)
I expect I could get something better from a butcher, for half the price. (which I really should find actually)
You can tell it's not proper A5 Waygu though, because it is only some 300% more expensive than Lidl/Tesco/Asda fare. The graded A5 japanese stuff is....well...

I mean, I'm better paid than I was, but if I'm spending £150 on something hot and meaty that's done in a few minutes, for that much money I'd expect her to have a charmingly mispelled name and to be able to confidently lie about how I'm a handsome, strong boy and how that happens to all men sometimes

Re: HCYBOC
I agree. It’s too soft as well if cooked as a normal size steak.unzippy wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2024 2:22 pm IMO Wagyu is too rich for a whole steak. I think it's best enjoyed in little lumps, teppanyaki or yakiniku style

I was gonna say "for sharing" and 730g don't mix up in my head.
Looks good though.
