FFS. Eight days. After just eight days of ownership and the Ateca has broken down, this was meant to be a reliable one!

Coolant warning came on, so I checked the level and it was low, when driving the temp warning light also came on, but the coolant temp gauge never budged from 90º. Grabbed some proper VAG coolant and poured a litre in. Started the car, all fine. Then the warning came back on again. Checked the header tank and all of the coolant was gone . Also, the heater has stopped working properly, regardless of what temp I turn the heater to, it blows cold air. I assume these two are related. FFS

Temperature guages haven't been accurate since in most mainstream cars since the late 1990s. They’re all damped to stay at in the normal range, seemingly until about 30 seconds before you boil over, by which point it’s too late to do anything about it…
Only cold air from the heater seems to be a better ‘guage’ in my cars when they have lost coolant!

Any smoke from the exhaust? EGR coolers are pretty common on these tbf.

Most VAG stuff of this era should have a proper coolant temperature display, no damping on digital dashboard era cars, my GTE shows exact coolant and oil temperature on the dash which matches exactly what the sensors are outputting.

No smoke from the rear, car was running totally fine even when the warning was on screen. It's getting recovered back to a dealer asap and over to them and the warranty.

Every VAG car I've driven upto 2020 just sits bang on 90deg and never moves even on a digital display - I thought that was the same for most stuff, even the Alfa's I've had.

Which was always a worry when you used to drive an Elise as the Stack did report it accurately, so it used to constantly change...always a bit of anxiety when HGF was a thing

Mine has this display, I know all the same age Cupra etcs have this as well.

You have to select it in the settings but it stays there.

It was a Yuasa Silver (smaller version than that beast) that I got from Tayna just over a year ago as a warranty replacement for my Varta Silver that suffered early life failure (and they didn't have any replacement Varta in stock). Happy with it so far - have been popping the CTek on it approx once a month to keep it fully healthy.

I seem to get through batteries on a regular basis through lack of use. I try and keep them on a charger but if I forget - it ends up being months before I realise and they have to be revived from the dead.

Having said that, I've had the Aston over seven years now and this is the first battery replacement it's had. So not too bad really.

The car is finally off to the dealer for repairs. It was very frustrating to arrange, because the Marshall recovery department (24/7) are separate to the Marshall warranty operators (Mon-Sat) who are also separate to the Marshall workshops (Mon-Fri). Each basically shirks responsibility until you speak to a manager in the dealership who can then order anything to be done.

At what point are people replacing batteries? Do you wait until it dies and/or has issues (slow cranking, dash warning) or just replace like a maintenance schedule?
