Only design concepts remember, this isn't the car that's been spied driving about by various magazines!

This just looks like a concept car that won't look anything like any car they actually build. It's probably not worth even thinking about at this stage.

It'll probably carry over slightly pumped up arches, the rear window treatment and fuck all else to the production cars.

Why does an electric car have such a long bonnet, that's what I'm wondering.

The I-Pace is a clever design because it's a ground up electric car that maximises interior space (more space that an XJ I think I remember reading). Now this?

I watched Harry's vid about it. I actually think the marketing campaign might be quite clever, if you're trying a radical relaunch you want people talking about it so they are taking notice of the new product. I'm not sure it really matters that it's mostly negative because more people will have seen the concept cars than would have otherwise, and most will probably be thinking they look alright (Harry points out that they're not expecting to retain much of their existing customer base so their view is of limited value).

They've got 2 years and loads of real world stuff like reviews and specs to do more traditional marketing in which they can get more of the typical customers on side. The aim right now was to get Jaguar in the news and people talking about it in order to make a splash with a new market that may not consume typical motoring press / launches, it will be long forgotten in 2 years. Main target markets are the US and China in the luxury category, I'm not sure there is one person on here who's opinion they really care about.

"The concept car is a two-door fixed-head coupé, a body type we’re told will not be built. But it has perhaps been artfully chosen because it loosely echoes the layout of the 1961 Jaguar E-Type, the car nearly everyone cites as the leader of a previous great leap forward in Jaguar design".

Yeah that's really helpful to see piss-poor images of sketches for vehicle that you have no intention of carrying forward into production. Top darts.

People failing to understand what "concept" means are just brilliant.

I've just watched that too. They built a model. Looks about 2.5m wide and 6m long.

They apparently expect 80% of buyers will be new to the brand......

Having watched that video:

I think the front looks feline, the centre caps look good and I’m sure I’ve seen a previous concept, maybe not Jaguar, that has the three design lines to one point? The rear lights are taking cues from LR by being hidden when not in use. Finally, maybe they are putting the batteries in the front so they can keep the rest of the vehicle low (skateboard design raises rest of car)?… or a V12!? 🤔😂

As soon as I saw that I was thinking long bonnet = v12 then caught myself.

I mean, it's a nice looking concept car/model, but also has all the traditional hallmarks of this sort of concept design. It'll be interesting to see how this translates into the production car. Particularly the interior.

How many of these are they hoping to sell a year?
Cheers,

Mike.

They state the production car, which isn’t a 2 door coupe, will have the same proportions.
It’s going to have to be longer than a Stagea to fit 4 doors!

Seems like the final car will be a Taycan rival. Which is ambitious. (Hopefully not rubbish!)

Jaguar teasing with screen screen shots of amazing, beautiful new car with cutting edge design or engineering but following up with a mundane 4 door 3 box production version... I thought they were changing..

Perhaps this is Jaguar's plan - Generate mahooosive amounts of public interest by claiming some revolutionary change in the brand but then follow up with just another Jaaaaaag - launched at Wentworth Golf Club with Hugh Grant as the brand ambassador...

Great bit of market research - based your whole company on a car that’s become the figurehead of EV depreciation….

Nooo, it'll have short doors (they might not like that description though).

Why does that concept make me fancy a cuppa?

There's a lot of E-type in the rear wings. I've got no problem with a long bonnet on an EV as long as you make decent use of it as a boot, so the rear seats can use what's left to have a decent cabin.

Unfortunately the concept is a million miles away from a road-legal version, and overall Cadillac did a better job with the Sixteen concept in 2003 -

I don’t get it.

It looks shite, an actual production version is going to be massively watered down.

I just don’t get such a huge launch for an irrelevant concept car, I don’t really know what value it gives other than some air time. It’s why they’re usually shown off at motor shows alongside their production ranges.

Are they just going to keep showing snippets and teasers over the next year or so until we’re allowed to see an actual product?

Yeah, I think they want to remain in the public eye and it’s the only way they can as they’re not selling anything for the next 18 months.
