Did they commit to which they liked best? I got the impression it was Porsche over McLaren. Doesn’t the McLaren have about 50% more power than the Porsche? But the 750S is a road-oriented model.
Yeah. It’s a comparison of 2024 ECOTY and ETCOTY, plus the Radical, so very much intentionally an odd bunch. I think it would have been even better if they’d used the full circuit, but that’s not their benchmark from a timing perspective.
Spoiler
Despite the power advantage I was surprised the Macca pipped the RS as this is its forte. They do correctly highlight however that the Porsche lapped far more consistently, and you can hammer it for many laps without complaint. Enjoyed it

The sort of person who buys these cars has no self awareness, only awareness that they look like they have a large disposable income, which makes them better than you in their minds, which is all that matters to them.

They're cars for people who wank themselves off while looking at themselves in the mirror.

On the collection, I'm sort of torn. On the one hand they've preserved some real rare cars, like the MG SV and the AMG Black. On the other they said that there were a few more of the RS Focus off site, and I'm wondering 'why'? That just gets to hoarding rather than collecting and preserving doesn't it?

I’ve just realised this is the collection of David Moulsdale - founder of Optical Express. He’s from Glasgow Suburb Bishopbriggs - where this warehouse is. I suspect therefore that some of the other cars may be at his house? :?

And yeah - cool collection, but they aren’t driven, many (like their RS500) appear to have been bought cos they are stoopid low mileage, and won’t be driven. Which is car crime for me. But….. I’d still like to see them….

If they aren’t going to be driven anyway, buying the lowest mileage examples and keeping them in pristine condition indoors like that is a good thing.

Being as wealthy as he is, this is like us buying Hot Wheels or Lego cars. They’re not a bad store of wealth while they’re appreciating and they’re CGT-free; but the costs of ownership (keeping them top-top, storage, staff, security etc) is high and he has certainly gone in at the top of the market with some such as the second most expensive Sierra RS500.

Wonder what will happen to the collection when he dies? I went round the Patrick Collection in Birmingham in the 80s; much smaller but had all the group B homologatiom specials. Then I saw the cars being sold off maybe 15 years later.

I just looked at some of the video comments. The majority appear appear to be bemoaning the fact that the cars aren't driven, and that the collection seems to have been driven by driven by numbers/algorithms rather than passion :?:

I liked "Because they are not used it's like looking at a collection of stuffed racehorses."

Buys a lot of them new and just wheels them into place. Feels like he’s holding them hostage. I get keeping them low mileage but it seems a lot (most) aren’t driven at all!

i don’t really mind them being preserved to last for future generations, it would be nice if they weren’t just lined up in a shitty office/warehouse setting though - they’re a little underwhelming like that imo. I’d rather spend la bit on a nicer setting for them - it’s not as though money is a limiting factor.

It’s not really my kind of collection. Don’t see the point in collecting stuff you won’t drive or collecting incremantally different models tbh.

Like, I’d have a “best of the breed” collection with the best/my favorite version of cars. And about a thousand rusty old hulks that I’ll get to one day
