Really tried but struggled to get into this - someone at work said how good the books are, but after 3 episodes I decided it wasn't my bag. Stuff like that usually floats my boat as well.Beany wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2024 11:09 pm Finally got around to Three Body Problem. Pretty good but fuck me they chose a proper dull moment to end the season on.
I might have to dig into the books, sounds like they're a bit less condensed (which is fair enough when trying to make a TV series) and more verbose about the sociology of it.
Decent Recent TV

Re: Decent Recent TV
S2 of Arcane finished last weekend, and it's one of the best things I've seen on TV. While S1 was a solid 10/10, this season got a bit messier and lacked a bit of coherancy. Despite that, it continued with astonishing animation, with impeccible VA work and brilliant characters. Ella Purnells (Fallout, Yellowjackets) is stand-out as Jinx, and its apparently her first VA job.
If you've even a passing interesting in the genre, it's absolutely worth a watch.

After relentless recommendations from friends I watched the first two episodes of S1 last night. Animation is beautiful and I'm interested in the story and characters despite never playing LoL.Matty wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:54 pm S2 of Arcane finished last weekend, and it's one of the best things I've seen on TV. I've never played it either. And have no interest, but thankfully it's not not necessary....RobYob wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2024 2:09 amAfter relentless recommendations from friends I watched the first two episodes of S1 last night. It's not explained, but it's split into 3 acts, with 3 episodes in each, if you wonder why there's a switch up to Ep4.

Saw that on Netflix tonight and was wondering if it's worth it. Having said that I'm finishing up season 4 of Outer Banks because I have a huge capacity for trashMito Man wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2024 10:48 pm Senna series on Netflix. Episode 1 is a sack of shit so far.

Re: Decent Recent TV
I quite fancied that based on your description, but it's Paramount subscription on Amazon Prime only. A subscription within a subscription. Fucking wankers.dinny_g wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 11:20 am
However, I'm watching Landman - another Sheridan series about the Oil Business. Billy Bob Thornton plays the Landman, a sort of ground agent for a big Oil Barron played by John Hamm. Very good so far with lots of laugh out loud moments, despite not being a comedy. Thornton's relationship with his ex wife and daughter is hilarious

Might be half decent if you’re not that into F1 and foreign. How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Decent Recent TV
Yeah I know. I got Paramount + free with Sky Movies. I wouldn’t have paid extra for itmik wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 9:17 pmI quite fancied that based on your description, but it's Paramount subscription on Amazon Prime only. The reviews haven't been great for Senna unfortunately.
Agreed that the subscription stuff is getting beyond a joke. We really need to do a cull shortly as I'm sure we're subscribed to way too many. And those subs within a subs are a PITA.
I thought I'd get some sports subs for over the winter, but to watch every game across all competitions for a team will need about 4 different subscriptions.

National geographic has assembled a load of footage from the Boxing Day tsunamis in 2004, program is a 4 parter called Tsunami: race against time on Disney plus
Watched the first one lastnight, Christ I forgot how bad it was. One guy talking about it said he lost 50 family members

Landman is very good and amusing. There's quite a lot of decent stuff on Paramount+, so I don't mind paying for it for a while.mik wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 9:17 pmI quite fancied that based on your description, but it's Paramount subscription on Amazon Prime only. Shetland (series 9, iPlayer). It carries on from the previous series, but with a seriously much darker story.
Only real annoyance is the "Swedish" man who definitely isn't a native Swedish speaker (he's Danish). Would have been a minor pilot tweak to let him be a Dane that's lived in Sweden which would explain his accent. Although I suppose not many outside Scandinavia can tell.

Black Doves (Netflix)
It is really rather good. Very stylish and aesthetically consistent. Ben Whishaw is brilliant, and his character has excellent taste in cars.
8/10 smouldering glances.
