Very tempting? Are you on crack? It's still over £200k for a modified XJS. I think at least you'd find your Range Rover depreciation seemed insignificant in comparison.

Did anyone actually like XJSs in period, other than as a relatively cheap way to get a V12? I was of the understanding that they really weren't that well regarded?

Feels like an exceptionally polished turd to me. Mates dad had a V12 and I don't recall him being very complimentary about it. I seem to remember it spending most of it's time sitting on the drive rather than being driven.

As a fan of the XJS and chavvy wide arch kits that does mothing for me tbh.

Of the Jaguar variety? Not much.

Of the TWR variety? Yes, but shame it's an auto.

Of the Lister 6.0 to 7.0 variety with pumped arches and manuel boxes? Hell yes. Fast Lane mag praised them highly as driving machines too.

That is what a restomod is. The really important thing is to start with a car which people want.

I’d have an XJS that works properly tbh. I think they look great and the bones are good, just needs the BL refined out of it.

Yeah, I'm quite fond of an XJS, but something a bit more subtle than that would be better.

I saw a 7.0 Lister XJS at the drag races when I was about 12 and it left me with a massive soft spot for them.

Supercat seems far less pretty than those cars with too much splitter and flare.

Enjoyed the Land Cruiser video. I actually prefer the rectangular lights to the cynical First Edition. Definitely beats an Ineos Grenadier despite the engine.

But surely there must be a better engine coming? Harry mentioned it vaguely but I wasn't sure if that was for the UK or not.

They do seem to have shot themselves in the foot a bit with the engine tbh.

In every other way it appears to be a better proposition than a Defender or Grenadier.

Would still have one over its rivals but it’s not the complete package it could’ve been.

That engine is a deal breaker for me. Id probably be able to live with it in the pickup but not in >£100k's worth of SUV.

I don't think the UK is the market for it and Toyota knows it, hence the small numbers. If they were selling them him in decent numbers it would probably have been cheaper (£55k-£60k?). Even with the more powerful petrol engine it would still unlikely do well here.

I'll watch the video later but in towing tests and general performance people say the 2.8 is outperforming the 4.5TDV8 in the 79 series.

There are loads of tuned ones all over Perth and they really love the V8 so having positive comments about the 2.8 is quite something.

This new model does look really good.

That extra level of toughness just isn't needed here and compromises the car for everyday usability (no air suspension, 4 cylinder commercial engine, separate chassis). Don't get me wrong, I think they're great and would be a no brainer in some countries. But can see why people would rather have a plusher LR product especially at similar money. I'd like to think I would choose a LC as they're cool, but in reality would have a Defender.

Current one seems to have a nice interior which should help but then again it's underpowered which won't help. The previous ones were near Range Rover money with the interior quality of a Prius. The only thing they had going for them was reliability which is a tough sell here as the most remote location in the UK is the private track to a farm shop...

All of the above. If I wanted all of those compromises I'd buy... a Grenadier (and still get a nice BMW 6cyl).
