One of the guys on the Lotus forum just reported that HarryM's old Esprit just arrived in Singapore.

Re: Harry’s Garage
Harry says all EVs feel the same while also saying it feels different to the Taycan.
A not so silly spec Macan E is a lot less, and add in tax and fuel savings; if it managed a bit better efficiency then I can see it working for me. It should do more than 3 miles/kWh. I don’t think the price of the one Harry tested is particularly mad for the performance. It will depreciate like buggery though.
Macan ICE Cd is not a surprise when I look at my wife’s fuel economy.

Re: Harry’s Garage
It’s heavy. Cd is good, but all 4x4 designs are impacted heavily by frontal area.
I’m confident you’ll manage 3m/kwh in summer, but it’ll be closer to 2 in winter.

That’s one of the quickest disappear into the distance once he enters the nsl zone that I can remember. Back looks a lot worse irl. A V8 GTS version would be better

I fucking hate the noise it makes, but yeah - it appears to go like stinkola.IanF wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2024 10:55 pm That’s one of the quickest disappear into the distance once he enters the nsl zone that I can remember.

Re: Harry’s Garage
I know @nuttinnew already posted the TG video, but 'arry has looked at it now.
I always liked the big box-arched Lister XJS's of the 80/90's, so this feels like it should appeal.
Whilst you'd never call it cheap, the price surprised me. Power levels are impressive, and I'm pleased that the Supercat is a manuel, but other than that.... I think it's really doing very little for me
Wonder how it'll sound with side exits? (I assume they've kept it simple and avoided trying to mix the flow from each bank). There is a snippet at the end of the vid, but it's just a taster.

Re: Harry’s Garage
The body kit is tacky and tasteless not quite sure why everyone is getting quite so wet in the gusset for it.
Re: Harry’s Garage
I initially wasn’t fussed on the aero kit but now knowing it is proper tested aero, I like it!
Just V12 and Manual had me to be honest. When you see the Bathurst footage though it would look better more standard.
Dave!

Re: Harry’s Garage
Is everyone?
I hope they're not because that will mean they're leaky and the added strengthening has caused a rust trap
It's something new, of course there will be a lot of interest and so inevitably some "wow, guys, I'm super excited" fluffy bollocks, bit I've seen as many comments against as for. Each to their own, for me seeing the work that's gone into the undergubbins raised my interest, likewise (as per usual) hearing of the aero analysis carried out - I could happily watch more of that going into more depth about most cars. I can imagine some people have shouted "make a Touring!" at the screen, whatever your flavour aesthetically I'm sure most would want the shell strengthening, engine work, and undoubtedly the banana lights shown in the render(ing)

Re: Harry’s Garage
Haven’t watched the vid but have seen enough pics of the car to know I hate the front bumper. It might be functional but it looks proper cheap fibreglass tacked on from the worst era of Max Power. Don’t hate the rest though.
Cheers, Harry
Re: Harry’s Garage
I haven't watched the vid yet - I will but it didn't grab me because it looks a bit stupid and Harry didn't need to nearly double his usual Sunday night video length for a look at a static car.
There's an article on PH which is gushing: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... &t=2099730 - I particularly liked this line: "there are still traces of the original XJS design, particularly the ultra-thin pillars around the cockpit". 'Traces'?
It's obviously an XJS because it looks like an XJS and has XJS buttresses and rear lights and overall shape.
It's not really an XJS restomod to me, it's just a bad recreation of a Lister Le Mans which did the widebody XJS thing in period. Though it does look better at the rear than the Lister because they haven't raised the bootlid.

Re: Harry’s Garage
I think there's some really nice little details, but they're outweighed by the tackiness of the rest of it. I also can't help but think the design brief was "do something like Singer does". And here we are.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Harry’s Garage
I've posted this video before, but the Supercat (I hate the name also) needs to sound at least this good (although given that the LeMans is overwhelming the mic on the recording device - probably a bit quieter). Really off-beat bassy gargle warble. Lovely.
Re: Harry’s Garage
I watched the Supercat video last night - very temping at that price. Interior and luggage compartment looks very nicely done.
Re: Harry’s Garage
You've just reminded me - having a screen to mimic an original XJS dash was a touch of tragedy for me

Re: Harry’s Garage
Very tempting? Are you on crack? It's still over £200k for a modified XJS. I think at least you'd find your Range Rover depreciation seemed insignificant in comparison.GG. wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 12:31 pm I watched the Supercat video last night - very temping at that price. Re: Harry’s Garage
Not necessarily for me personally as I'm not old enough to have ever lusted after an XJS, but I'm sure there is a market out there that would think half the price of a new Ferrari and 1/5 the price of a Singer is a good deal. I'm not sure depreciation would be any worse than buying say, a Ferrari 12 cylinder. Ultimately it will stand or fall on the quality of the execution and driving impressions I think.Jobbo wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 1:16 pmVery tempting? Are you on crack?
