West Suffolk meet? SUNDAY 2nd MARCH!

Post by Gavster »

Seeing how there actually appears to be quite a few people within a short drive of west Suffolk, how about we organise a meet?

First question - who's in? 🙋‍♂️

Second question - is west Suffolk suitable for a car meet? Those who are local to the area, are there decent roads/routes etc. From my brief experience I'm 100% sure there's lots of good pubs and food to choose from.

Third question - when. The new year seems suitable, although probably best to avoid the iciest time of year. Should we be planning well ahead to something like March?

Oh there are definitely some good roads, but not sure about being able to make an oldschool convoy style route.

Plenty of places to meet up and have some food / drink and chat nonsense about cars though.

I’m a couple of miles west of Bury StEds

Yeah, keen. A bit more of a trek for all of us, so maybe not the right place for it, but I wouldn't mind checking this place out: https://www.ignitioncarsandcoffee.co.uk

As for roads, I'll be jumping on the A507 Baldock to Buntingford to head east, which is half decent, east of that I have no idea but assume there'll be twisties heading further east on that bearing.

I’m just outside Stamford so that’s right near me.

I never knew it existed.

One of the cars and coffee groups I follow meets at Downham market, so might be able to tag on to that and see what else turns up at some point.

Bit of a trek for some of us but probably fairly quiet early on a Sunday morning.

About two hours from mine, so not impossible with suitable planning.

Can you come a bit further West? Getting to the East side from the Midlands is a nightmare

Depending on where it is, I'd like to try and make it.

I'm in Ely, so in.

Not sure about decent roads around there. There is a nice one leading to Lavenham, which also has a great pub.

(to me West Suffolk = Bury St Edmunds... or were you more thinking Newmarket?)

I've got quite a bit of travel coming up over the next 6-7 months, but if a meet gets organised, I'll try my best to make it!

We definitely got into Suffolk on the Hertfordshire meets from time to time. Sadly from where I now live - almost Wales - it’s a bit too much of a trek. Hope you can find some decent quiet roads; I recently bemoaned how the ones we used to use in the Cotswolds are now too busy.

Checks Google Maps.... Bury St Edmunds - 2 1/2 hrs each way. Hmm, maybe! I've done West Wales and back in a day after all (admittedly, a while ago now). Could bring the Fabia for maximum masochism and risk of not actually making it.

Just under two hours for me so not impossible depending on when you guys go for and commitments closer to the time.

911 has not really done anything approaching a long trip since summer and is flashing up low battery warnings at me to remind me I need to use it :?

My uncle has a holiday place in Cavendish (near Long Melford) which could serve as a base of operations if the timing is right.

Either that or Newt is planning a "special military operation" to invade Cambridge.

Actually that still just sounds like a euphemism for what you were implying

Sounds like a go-er 8-)

I've added a poll to the first post so vote for whatever days you think are best.

Also, looking at the map and a very brief Google search for good driving roads has suggested the square between Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury and Haverhill, including the B1066 and B1063 would be a good area to explore and be within an hour or two of plenty of us.

Can't make any of them dates 😂

I'm not even sure if my cars will be on the road until the middle of the year.

Should be about in late March, early April if you want to meet up for a coffee, Gav?

I must have missed something! What's up with the cars?

A casual meet would be cool, especially if the move does go ahead (I'm 75% of the way to it being confirmed, should be all finalised at the weekend)
