I’m guessing that’s probably the main reason, can’t see the components needed to be able to get to 120mph being much different to those that only need to make it to 95mph.

Try hard enough and you can make most standard cars brakes fade on a tight nsl road without ever breaking the speed limit.

My mito will apparently do 130mph and the brakes and tyres were pretty normal, not particularly sporty or optimised for high speed.

You have bigger brakes and an uprated gearbox compared to the 95bhp version. Also the faster Mitos have engine undertrays.
When you've got manufacturers cheaping out on a single electric window switch and removing buttons to stick all the controls on an LCD it's clear every penny matters.
How about not having a sig at all?

The recent cold weather has drained the Model 3 battery so I went to Westfield to charge it. I did remember reading somewhere that the Cybercab is in store so went up to have a look at THE FUTURE.

It was roped off so I couldn’t go inside or look at the back but honestly looked better than half the crap sold these days. But pretty useless as a taxi.
I was more curious about the logistics of how they brought it here. Must be quite a faff, presumably they just push it everywhere on a dolly or maybe they have a RC remote to control it :?

Just a gimmick that will probably never see the roads. And if it does, it will be like the Tesla Semi - just used in a very limited capacity before being forgotten about.

And do taxi's not take more than 2 people these days? Why is it a 2 door coupe :lol:

It does have a suspiciously large area dedicated as a boot :?
I did pay extra attention to all the private hire vehicles and cabs in London this morning - I think almost of them had a single passenger as far as I could make out.
I guess for people just commuting to work, you’re typically on your own so it’s fine for that.

I expect they just plug in a Logitech usb wheel and pedal set if they need to manually move it.

It’s an utterly absurd idea that they’re never going to sell, yet people lap it up.

Good to see it still has the painted tyre sidewalls to make it more futuristic 🙄

Remember the model 3 was announced as being a robotaxi?

Same caveats as before apply here - if it was such a guaranteed easy money maker why would they even bother selling them? just run them as a fleet of their own and keep reinvesting the money in building more for themselves.

Hard to tell but aren't they plastic covers like the ones on the Cybertruck which had to be removed because they wore away the sidewalls of the tyres?

Yeah the silver sidewalls looked like trim. Being so low profile I imagine it won't have the wear problem of the Cybertruck and it will just be ripped off the first time the car comes across a pothole.

Ah yes, does look like an actual trim on this one. Presumably because it’s only a static display piece and people will be taking photos of it.

Looks like it’s had a roof chop and the rear is a bit Volvo C30, but I like it.

Watched the carwow vid on mid size evs.

Pretty poor that all but one only achieved 80% of their claimed range on a pretty gentle motorway / a-road run (a polestar got 90%)

Really is about time they came up with a more realistic way of measuring it. Most IC cars will get close to their combined cycle mpg with sensible driving and you don’t have to drive without heating or lights to do it.

I still think it’s absolutely bonkers that some of them will lock up and become completely immobile if they do run out. You’d have though at the bare minimum they should have to come up with a recovery / tow option as soon as they stop due to a flat battery.

I had an auto CLK (back in 2000-2002! :shock: :shock: ) and its battery died on a RORO from Menorca to Barcelona.. took a call to Mercedes European recovery to get it in neutral and move the bloody thing. I then had to free wheel down the ramp with no assistance or steering really! New Battery and call out from Merc arrived less than an hour later, cost €80 inc battery! 🤯 and off I went. (Always amazing how we managed before having constant access to t’internet.)

Point is, it’s not only elec cars that die with a dead battery, newer ones don’t even let you put them in neutral.

Said it before, years ago a car broke down in the Eurotunnel, in one of the front carriages of the train, they couldn't get it into neutral to push it out so everyone had to reverse almost the entire length of the train. Took 2 hours for me to get off being near the front of it all!
And that predated EVs unless it was a G Wizz!

Its no different to ICE cars though. The published mpg wont be met in all driving and likewise with an EV you will get 110% of the range in certain circumstances.

No-one walks to the petrol station to get a gallon with a plastic can anymore, they just phone the AA same as you would if you had an EV.
