Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is also visible.

South west - about 10 or 25 degrees above the horizon, getting higher until the 22nd odd

This is at least the third day on the trot that the local air quality on AccuWeather has been Unhealthy. It may have been so for longer but I hadn't looked, and I don't think they keep a history of it. If I'm going to have my breath taken away I'd rather it be by a crisp, clear morning - maybe in a 405 GTX enjoying an early morning dalliance; the loin goes from strength to strength.

Look on the map and move to Northern Africa, yours suddenly won’t look as bad

Knowing the amount of Saharan sand & dust we get up here I can imagine how claggy it gets. It puts me off following Harry M's Testarossa route.
It did show Fair (one up from Poor I think) here for a short while yesterday, just long enough to cover dogsitting responsibilities. It's been Unhealthy through today, just updated and it's gone to Poor :)
I don't know if there's a step below Unhealthy, partly because I don't know what they'd name it; Deadly? Blaaack?

I don’t know about anyone else, but I find this time of year way more depressing than the usual early new year slump.

It’s just constantly dull and crap, and seems like everyone forgets how to drive in the dark making the commute home a pain.

Never mind, only 6 weeks or so until the nights start to pull out again….

It’s a bit cold, a bit damp.

You don’t get that crisp morning air or frost anywhere. I really enjoy winter but the mid point between the end of autumn and start of winter really suck.

De-Barried your link for you ;)

This year does seem particularly bad for constant cloud cover here in Suffolk. Feels like I haven't seen the sun in ages.

Snow has started.... Hopefully there's some left in the morning and I'll head out for some fun. There's snow gates north of the village so the dream scenario would be that they're shut as I've found a way round them.

Bloody hell, snow already.

How do snow gates work? They close the main roads and then you end up having to do a diversion round even more sketchy roads?

Yeah, they're on the A9 in a few places between Perth and the north of Scotland, usually higher up, where I guess drifting snow could be a big issue. The further north you go, the less alternative options there are, so unless you positively, absolutely have to be there, you'll just cancel your trip. Although sometimes the alternative option will be on lower ground/less exposed so might be ok.
Cheers,

Mike.

Weather warnings are out, maybe not so surprising in your neck of the woods, but Mon & Tues are a bit further south; https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/wa ... 2024-11-18

Gentle dusting in Cheshire overnight too, not enough to close low level roads (C&F/Snake are mind you). Looking like a frosty night tonight though, so that could cause issues on Weds.

Stupid car boot auto opened while I was clearing snow, filling the boot. Dreadful design Hyundai 😡
