A Meat

Post by mik »

Up shite and briney yesterday morning to rendezvous with messrs YK, Marv and Barry who were up for a little drive. ScottA and MikeyB were already there when I arrived - with BrianT riding shotgun. He was in pretty much everything throughout the day. YK had also invited a couple of sound gentlemen from a Porsche forum, who were sharing a modded 996.1.

Pleasure to finally meet Barry. I had to really fight the urge to give him a bear hug and call him a c.

Catching and sacrificing a few wild Haggis for the rain gods in advance proved fruitful again, as we had lovely clear skies and dry roads for almost the whole day. Precipitative pain was only felt along the second section of the <redacted> road, but the tarmac travelled thereafter had not been affected.

Much pish was spaffled at the various stops and I had a wee poke around Marv's famous 944S3 (serious seats!) and YK's new toy. We also had an unplanned group-event poke around Baz's TypeR, but that's another story. :?

On the way back we had just split up and were held up at Glencoe. Signs apologising that traffic would be stopped for upto 15mins at a time FFS. With no indication of what was going on. We noted film crew vans and assumed a film shot. No flies on us. 8-) When we got going again however, we passed something very low and sleek at teh side of the road under a cover - Brian and I immediately thought Porsche ConceptE :?: So almost certainly a car ad / promo being filmed. Will need to look out for it..... :geek:

Whilst we were waiting however, it did occur to us that - once we dispatched the coach and 7 cars ahead of us (not counting Mikey who was just behind the coach) - we would have around 12 miles of tarmac completely clear of any other traffc (save people who'd pull out of lay-by's they'd been sat in). Now the Glencoe road is one that demands much restraint at the best of times. I'm sure the UK land speed record could be set on some sections. This was just ridiculous! Like the opening scene of 28 days Later (if you ignored traffic going the other way that is). Mikey was loose before us as he had less dawdlers to dispatch, and it took "some time" to reel him in.....

YK's GT3 is lovely. Following it - the rear seems impossibly low, and just soaks up every compression with a single damped movement. Looks superbly controlled and it changes direction impressively.

The MiniGP looks so purposeful with the cage and amount of camber on the rears. Carries so much speed through the corners.

The Lecht road was simply amazing - as ever. The first side of the <redacted> road was also epic - I was following YK so got a great view of it moving around. We had very similar pace too. Needs more volume though mate. :) All I could hear with my windows down was mine....

There was also amusement from the others, as ladies wanted pics taken with the Evora on two separate occaisions.

'til next time guys 8-)

We were talking about you as MikeyB was thinking about an ExigeS3. So we folded him into Scott's Elise, and then pissed ourselves as he tried to get out again.

I am not sure MikeyB is still considering an ExigeS3....

Looks awesome! One day I may get up there (was a shame when I bought the car not to get to stick around the area a bit).

It was a great day yesterday :D Door to door I think it was just over 540 miles.

The highlight was definitely the Lecht road, what a fantastic ribbon of tarmac. The bonus was seemingly having Rannoch Moor to ourselves, after Glencoe (other than approaching traffic). Regarding the delay, I wrongly thought it was a running event (I Mis-read the date on a nearby notice  ). It was great to see Mik, Scott, YK, Marv and Brian again and to meet new faces.

The downside was, after squeezing myself into the drivers seat of Scott’s Elise, coming to the realisation that I may not be able to get back out with my dignity intact :o

The Mini was great fun on all the differing types of roads. It’s a great feeling chasing and hanging onto more exotic machinery. It could just do with another 30bhp.... Mik’s Evora sounds much more fruity with his recent exhaust mod- it sounded teh awesomez when giving it some beans. YK’s new GT3 is just lovely.

I’m looking forward to next time!

Mik, thanks for being our tour guide again. Sorry that I forgot to tippex my tyres.

Good to catch up with Mikey (and +1), Brain, Scott. I was well impressed with you chaps’ driving / pace. Scott especially in his little Elise.

A successful and fun day out. Thank you all! 8-) :D :) :P

Barry is fine - after we all helped him get it up it seemed to stay there without issue.
