And if you didn’t give your overweight Dad it, insisting he eat home cooked food and joined a gym and he died of a stroke, people would still think you a monsterV8Granite wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:41 pm If my child was overweight and I injected him till he got slimmer, people would think I’m a monster.

It doesn’t mean you don’t help, if they don’t want to help themselves then it’s a lost cause. They need a reason to change and living off shit food but having medical intervention I don’t think is the way.
So many foods with dextrose in for example, pick a gammon up in Tescos, it’s only 87% pork, so your 1kg gammon is 130grams of dextrose, sugar and other crap.
I bet most people don’t realise 1kg of pork isn’t actually 1kg of pork.
The food industry is a shambles.

Re: Bye bye Starmer
You can look up the ingredients for everything Tesco sells on their website.
They’re not allowed to add anything and not list it as that’s how you kill people.
It’ll have a higher water content than a butcher gammon but otherwise much the same. They’re not allowed to add anything and not list it as that’s how you kill people.

Re: Bye bye Starmer
The moisture content of a gammon will be well above 12% though so it’s certainly not water.
Unless they don’t count fat as the meat, which they do with steak etc.

Re: Bye bye Starmer
Out of curiousity I checked the most expensive gammon at waitrose.
97% pork, I suspect because it was dry brined.

But I think you're somewhat missing the fundamental point that applies to many difficulties, challenges and addictions.
If people could do what they should be doing then there wouldn't be the issue in the first place.
There needs to be a range of fixes for every problem and while for some, free Gym Membership is the answer, for others, it isn't.

Sums it up really. Giving people weight loss drugs should be an absolute last resort. Maybe someone will know the answer to this: do they teach kids about basic nutrition in schools? I think some people think there's nothing wrong with the junk they're eating.*ZedLeg wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:27 pm I’m not against medication. There are already treatments on the nhs for the life threateningly obese and the health minister saying he wants to shortcut weight loss to get people working rings alarm bells tbh.
*don't get me wrong, I consume my fair share of junk, but at least I know it's bad for me and I try to moderate it accordingly.
Re: Bye bye Starmer
I don’t think people do have a clue though. Porridge is a healthy breakfast, as is cereal, both create blood sugar dips and troughs that make you hungrier. Studies have been done which show this yet it’s still the healthy option people are told. I fixed my hyperactive youngest by feeding him a different breakfast only, his teachers made a point of telling me how much he had calmed down.
People equate calories with healthy or not, which isn’t the case.
Whether veggie or omni, as less messed about with as possible and keep away from sugar and sweetners.
I’m bowing out now as I can feel my soapbox coming, I knew I should have not looked at the news as I’d kept off it for a month

We do the opposite of what is recommended for breakfast, our kids improved and have more energy.duncs500 wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 9:43 amSums it up really. The leaflets we had come home were only eat meat 2 times a week to live longer, these went in the bin.

The thing is Dave, your comments on this page suggest that you aren’t as educated on good food as you think you are.V8Granite wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 9:46 am I don’t think people do have a clue though. The results my family have gotten say whatever we are doing is working well, wife off of medication, mother in law no longer in pain, kids better behaved and more energy. I’ll stick with that.ZedLeg wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 9:51 amThe thing is Dave, your comments on this page suggest that you aren’t as educated on good food as you think you are.V8Granite wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 9:46 am I don’t think people do have a clue though. That's great Dave but please understand that what has worked for you won't necessarily work for some one else

Exactly, so neither do all the silly things people get told are healthy either.dinny_g wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 9:56 am That's great Dave but please understand that what has worked for you won't necessarily work for some one else

Re: Bye bye Starmer
I’m not arguing with that, I’m saying no one knows everything. You were wrong about Tesco adding sugar to their pork.
People all over the place are making decisions based on what they think is right. Doesn’t mean it’s actually what’s healthiest or even factually correct.

Apologies, it was the smoked gammon joint that had sugars.

This is the first one I saw, I’d need to travel back to Tescos to see which one I picked up.

Re: Bye bye Starmer
Anyway, 40kg down between us in a year and I’m 27% body fat, I’ll take that.
I’ll (actually do it this time too) bow out now as I need some food and to walk the dog.
