Sending big love to you and your family @16vCento that's a load of stuff to deal with in a short space of time. Glad the car's giving you some escape, and epic MPG to boot.

As above, @16vCento, condolences. They say shitty things happen in 3's, so hopefully things are now on the up for you.

Booked the Giulia in with Stoneacre main dealers to look at the cabin leak, only because it's still under manufacturers warranty. I now know why I don't bother with main dealers. All I wanted to do was confirm warranty was in place, and get it booked....unbelievable how difficult it is.

Called, spoked to person 1. It's a main call centre. Explained, we'll put you through to service.
Transferred.
No answer. I hung up, as I was at work. They called back - explained the situation. That's not for us.
Transferred.
Explained to person 2 - who confirmed the warranty. Great. Can I book in? You need the service team.
Transferred.
Explained to person 3. Oh, you want the dealer service centre, that's not us. We'll put you through.
Transferred.
BACK to person 1! Yes, I spoke to you earlier. Yeah I can book this for you anyway. :x :x

Then proceeded to spend fifteen minutes trying to upsell THREE different packages to me for a cost. MOT protection, a service pack, and worst of all, fuel additives and a 'clean' to improve performance/life of the engine. She was clearly young/new and reading from a script, but they all very slight agressive tone giving you the idea that without these, you risk massive bills unless you don't buy. It's a disgrace, especially the fuel additive thing.

Anyway, rant over. I shall post in the courtesy car lottery - I'm going to pretend I'm interested in an Alfa Junior and see what they say.

E46 update, because I've basically started hating it and ignoring it, but it's approaching MOT time.

It runs, k-bus shit still a mess, and the car is generally a mess, so I'll see what stuff comes up the garage tomorrow (just for a pre-mot check) and what they say, but ultimately the car is going to my bro because he has the space and time to do something with it.

You have to have huge cahoonas to buy any Italian car, isn’t the average owner risk averse?

Bought another jack. The OEM one is a fairly marginal scissor jack - considering the car is over 2500kg unladen, using that on a loaded vehicle is pretty sketchy.

Mercedes supply a nice 2-stage bottle jack with their Sprinters and (as I understand it) rental companies etc. immediately remove them to avoid liabilities with numpties killing themselves. So there’s a steady supply turning up on eBay. Why they don’t just spec the vans without a jack in the first place I don’t know.

Prices vary but under £50 is a good deal.

It’ll also be handy when working on the car, to temporarily support components without taking up the footprint of a trolley jack.

That’s the only thing I’ve ever used a bottle jack for - the idea of lifting a car with one gives (and has always given) me the heebies. :?

Drop car off at garage. Garage isn't open (from memory, I think they don't open up till 9am, now I type this).

Also, on the way, check engine light comes on

At this stage the idea of just getting someone to transport it to my brothers lock up and letting him fucking deal with it is extremely tempting.

Drive it to your brother’s and get him to give you a lift home ? I don’t know the distances involved.

It's about 70 miles (leeds to hull) and at this point I'm not sure how much I trust the car.

It's borderline at the 'light recommission' stage now

If you think about it, a bottle Jack is a stronger trolley Jack as the trolley Jack has leverage against its ram where a bottle Jack only has direct force.

From my experience as someone who likes cars until they go wrong, I'd recommend getting RAC/AA membership, then winging it and then dropping it off and getting the train back. Having that car hanging around in the background creates so much mental noise it's a relief to offload it.

Nah, It's not worth the hassle. But yeah, it feels like a weight around my neck at the moment so I want it gone.

Garage are running about day behind but I told them the crack (IE tell me all of what you think is wrong with it, what you think is wrong that'd impact MOT, and I'll decided if we fix it, or if my brother takes it on as is) and they're up for it.

@Swervin_Mervin yeah and it's fine - but the E46 has had multiple interested parties fall through/be useless/I've missed them due to mental health/ so now I'm down to my brother  he's done a job for someone with a lockup who's said he could have lockup use as payment, which is convenient, as if the car needs a lot of work for the MOT, then my bro SORNing it while he fixes it up might make more sense.

Yeah it's not the strength that concerns me - as you say a trolley jack is really a bottle jack with extra bits - it's the footprint. Hence my worry is stability.

928 has done almost 600 miles in the last few weeks and has been faultless. First a weekend away with friends, then last weekend the 928.org annual meeting at the Merry Miller and a visit to Classic Motor Hub in Bibury. Worked out my fuel consumption for the last weekend and it returned a very impressive 24mpg.

My switches arrived from Porsche on Monday so I'll be fitting those over the course of the next week or so (seat switch requires me to take the driver's seat out).

My car features briefly in this YouTube video made by a friend of a friend. It's the white one in the corner.

If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
