Swift service. They found the OSR had a puncture, which they've repaired and put on the front, as it was also slightly higher tread than one on the front.

I've suggested
- I'd rather have the repaired tyre on the back than the front as that would be less impactful if it went pop (not that it should if it's been properly and safely repaired)
- I'd rather have the slightly higher tread tyre on the rear to keep the car more stable (though we're talking <1mm difference)

Also, with regard to Dakar pricing being RRP, I noticed a few 458 Speciale ‘s for sale yesterday at just under £300k.. a long way down fro the £450-500k I remember.

ETA: seems you can get them for £200k (plus commission).. jeez!

I’ve also been looking at 2+2s in the £130-150k range; 911 GTS or Ferrari Roma both tempting.. think I want a performance saloon ie 4 proper seats, but not the heavy, hybrid modern saloons (M5!) that they actually make.

Yes, easy double - more like quadruple I think. Annual servicing which will be four figures normally plus a Ferrari PowerPlus warranty at £4k ish a year versus a grand annually for Porsche warranty. But still, Enzo V12...

I didn't much care for the Roma originally but one was tested recently against the new vantage by Matt Prior and it looked great in the teal-ish colour they had on test.

Rear seats are bolt upright, boot is crap, only a V8 and £150k mean its still a no though.

Re the F12 - I like them but they look old to me with the FF style front lights. They are overpriced at £150k+ IMO as it is an FF without the front drivetrain in a swoopier body for 50 grand more. The 812 is such a step on in terms of design that it would make it very hard for me to buy an F12 I think. The back particularly is just a mess compared the 812... stupid F1 style rain light, a weird straight boot line between the lights and lower bumper trim that looks stuck on...

None wants to hear about a £5k Suzuki where there are Dakars and F12s to be spoken of.

Puncture repair failed. Ended up replacing a pair of tyres as I didn't want odd ones across the axle.
Got some of these.

Cheaper than the std Contis it comes with.
To continue my previous comments, they wanted to put them on the front but I said on the back please. The other pair are at over 3mm each. The non-punctured one I had replaced was the lowest of the good three.
Curiously it has cured the car pulling to the left, maybe rotating the wheels around has done that. It's now much more pleasant to drive.

Got to drink their coffee and use their wifi most of the day - I had back to back calls so couldn't leave.

I actually prefer the looks of the F12 to the 812, but I'm probably just weird.

I agree with Duncs.. front is much better on F12 imho, and 812 rear is just a copy of the GTC4, especially the lights, and just looks a bit generic to me. Pinifarina designs are more classic “Ferrari”..

Also, that video @GG., his summary is 812 for d2d, but F12 for something special at weekends that will hold value (as last Pini design) whilst 12Ciiiiliiiiindriiii will spank boring 812… all imho of course!!

Eta: but yes, I will grudgingly let you take me out when you buy an 812!

How did the puncture repair fail? That’s not something I’ve heard of before with a plug repair.

Not sure. I think they said something like it going in at the wrong angle. I guess I could have gone down the route of, you just knackered my tyre, you replace it, but I didn’t have the time or energy.

Washed the MX5 after getting back from Devon. I thought it would be sufficiently clean but it was a bit dusty and you could tell the alloys were more matte than they should be with brake dust. So I was quite pleased to see how easily water is wiped off the wrap with a blade. Also good to go round and see the details properly. The bonnet is a large panel and rises either side to the wings which then bulge out - it’s a miniature muscle car shape

Also fitted the polished black exhaust trims I got from Amazon - the exhaust looked a bit naked in the plain steel finish. I’ll probably get a replacement exhaust at some point but in the meantime these look a bit more meaty. Haven’t fitted the sound pipe yet.

All of that is because I’m joining a convoy of MX5s tomorrow, a tribute to a lovely lad called Luke who died exactly a year ago. He and my stepdaughter went out with each other at school so I’m going for her.

If the battery goes low voltage, you'll get this & suspension error, & gearbox errors etc all at once.

(I'm sure there is a diagnostic menu you can access with a few button presses to see things like voltage - I'd need to go and look it up)

edit: yeah - it's on the "vehicle signals" screen when you do this

I gave it a good wiggle and it would just hit the bumper at its highest, so not with the standard exhaust hangers. I do plan to get a small black diffuser/valance of some sort because the bumper looks slightly bare.

Had a nice convoy from Gloucester services to Caffeine & Machine (The Hill) in memory of Luke. Did get peppered with hedge trimmings from a tractor with flail the other side of a hedge at one point, and had my first sideways moment (very controllable) and third gear traction control moment over a hump in the road. Loving it. The colour attracted a lot of comments.
