I’ve never washed the Golf. It’s 14 days short of its 1st Birthday. It might get a wash at the dealers when it’s in for it’s annual inspection next week. If I remember I’ll remove the roof bars and bike carriers.

After deciding I'd join the lads in Scotland this weekend I figured I should check the car over. Boy.

Four new tyres fitted this morning - Tyresonthedrive - £413
DS2500 pads bought from Demon Tweeks (excuse for a little drive too) £89
Blagged DT workshop to fit the pads to be told both front calipers had seized pistons. Fucksticks
Dropped on local garage and gave them sob story about needing to be north of Glasgow by Fri evening - two recon calipers coming Thurs, fitted Fri morning. £96 x 2, plus labour (2hrs)..

So what was meant to be a nice gentle start to my two weeks leave is costing me a ruddy fortune (altho all the above was due anyway, I'm well aware).

On the upside, fresh S001s and front brakes should let me have some fun in them thar hills.. chasing a GT3, 968CS and gawd knows what else..

Still got the old Civic Type R EP3. Neglected most of the year, sat on the drive, shopping trips etc. Still trying to work out if I should go all midlife crisis and get something fun or just get something practical that suits my realistic needs. Problem is, practical will still need to stop and handle or it'll just annoy me. Not a lot out there that fits my moon/stick requirements.

Also, above moaning is meant light heartedly, it's cost me sod all in the years I've had it, tyres are consumables, pad choice was mine (twice the price) and calipers on Hondas always seize. Only real annoyance I have with this is the VED @ £315 odd p/a.

Proxy Fleet update:

parents: 66 plate B-Max chopped in for a 20k mile, 15 plate top of the range C4 Picasso. They previously had a C3 Picasso when they lived in Spain so are well happy with the comfort of the thing. Lots of toys on it. Took a hit on the B-Max of course (and didn't seek any of my advice beforehand). But I did save them over £200 after they were mis-sold some gap insurance.

Porsche brake rebuild update:

4 helicoils required after some bawbag snapped 4x bleed nipples off previously.

Then a big clean and hi temp repaint/lacquer.

New discs, pads, fluid and HEL braided lines, hopefully a big improvement as the breaks were absolute shite!

Finally got the dent on my bonnet fixed, I'm sure it was caused by the kids next door playing basketball . Took the guy about an hour and the dent is now gone. Costed 80 quid so quite chuffed with the result.

The old qashqai passed with flying colours, just the front wiper tax which i'll take. Feels a bit baggy so tempted to move it on with the 12 months test on it and nothing too wrong with it. Trouble is theres nothing else I really want in my price range - ideally some sort of phev.

Today I fixed the car radio (at last)

If you remember on the last forum, I had a battery that was going flat often. I traced it back to the radio - the unit wasn't shutting down completely when the doors locked. It'd often work again (as in, detect the ignition had turned off or the doors had locked) if you thumped the dash in the right place. It's been getting worse and worse over the months that by now it barely turns on. I suspected a dry joint inside, so today I took it apart and re-soldered all the joints inside.

Put it back together, and bingo! It now works correctly every time.

Also changed the rear wash spray 'nozzle' because the old one wasn't putting out a decent stream of water.

Just tackling niggly little bits now.

Today I discovered that the DSC/TC on the BMW takes about 3/4 second to kick in if you properly take the piss.

It was hilarious.

If you're on the books for the 'how long till raith bins it' ticket, then someone needs to up the odds

Caliper update

Nipples sorte with a few helicoils, seals all checked and ok.

Cosmetic work ongoing.
Hours and hours of prep and 5 coats of paint in, another 4/5 tomorrow, then stencils and about 5 coats of high temp lacquer.

New rear exhaust box fitted to the Blingo as it was getting a bit crusty and was an advisory (or whatever they are called now) on the MOT. It was £29 from carparts4less and must have taken me less than five minutes to swap over, including driving onto the ramps.

Not only is the Volvo still sitting with the steering lock jammed, the Saab has thrown an EML which is an O2 sensor but may be an actual fault that is being highlighted by the sensor rather than a sensor fail. Other than buying a new one and swapping them not sure how I can test. I hate cars.
