Its not leaping out to me tbh. i don’t like the colour scheme, it has a million miles and it’s nowhere near me.

i’m definitely up for the auction idea though - i don’t need finance or anything, so i can be flexible on how i buy.

The one I linked on P2 of this fred still appears good value to me for the age/mileage. You won't be surprised that I like the colour, but you could probably do a (c)JobboWrap on it and still be cheaper than others. There is no mention of Cat C/D etc.

yeah, i like the spec - i don’t think white works as well on an Elise as an Evora.

If you buy them right they seem a safe place to have your money. Therefore my vote is work through them 1, 2, 3 , V6 Exige with perhaps a sprinkle of iterations on the journey

As I drove to work today I spotted a nice sky blue Audi R8 cabrio and realised if I was looking at a 10yr old near-£40k Exige V6 I'd probably be considering something like that as an alternative. The Elise/Exige sweet spot must surely be an unmodified S1 (which will be pure and doubtless increase in value) or a later S2/S3 factory supercharged version for sub-£30k.

Having said that, I was very tempted by a black 2007 S2 with the 134bhp Toyota engine and air-con which was auctioned earlier this year on Carandclassic I think; went for less than £15k. You said you liked mine and that is only 10k miles less.

Fair enough on the colour scheme. Personally I think it looks great, but then I do have a penchant for the JPS look. If I had £25k for an Elise in my pocket I'd probably being trying to nab that for a good price and give it a refresh. You could buy a car for half the miles that needs more work anyway if that's been well looked after.

Yeah, I get it really.

The guys doing the respray on mine commented after the respray that with the other work I'd had done it was more or less a new car inside and out now. Coming from someone who'd seen it with the clams off but didn't do the work underneath I was pleased with that. Not that I had any doubt because of the level of detail that we all know Dan goes to, but still hearing it from another source was still nice.

Hopefully it'll stay in fine fettle for a few years now.

I can't believe it's been so long since the first Elise came out. Makes me feel even older than I am.

In 30 years or so of driving cars, my first drive in my friend's new S1 Elise back in 96/97 still sticks with me as one of the most vivid driving memories I have. The way the car handled, the way everything in it felt, how it sounded, how it cornered, even how it smelled... they all come right back to me when I think about an Elise.

There's just something about a light car with a good unassisted steering set up, it makes such a big difference. For me that's the biggest feature that you just can't get from many other places.

I know I bought my MX5 in preference to an Elise but I agree with Duncs; I miss my Elise very much 20 years after it departed and the MX5 doesn't match its steering or pure handling, nor does it feel light in the same way (albeit I've not tried a later S2 or S3 which put on the pounds and got to within 100kg of my MX5).

But I'm an old fart and realistic that I wouldn't have driven an Elise to work in the dark this morning
