The Protest Thread.
Re: The Protest Thread.
I don’t think the right to protest is being threatened here. The Gaza protests happen every weekend without fail and despite sometimes pushing the boundaries of peaceful protest they’re all allowed to happen and fine. The difference is they’re not trying to grind the country to a halt by blocking major roads and stick to their prescribed routes.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: The Protest Thread.
The problem isn't what's being done now - it's what any future given government could do.
Again, remember, we were only one utterly moronic budget away from having Truss in power for a long time, and she's a fucking lunatic.
It's why it's important that the extensions to the powers, pushed through illegally by the last government, get overturned at best, and severely curtailed and clarified at worst.

Re: The Protest Thread.
i’m not sure this thread is solely focused on proving you wrong Zed. You’re just another (genuinely very interesting) contributor to it.
i’m not too bothered about being right or wrong on here any more - i like it when i learn something tbh - whether it’s something i agree with or not, and that’s something you add a lot to.
Re: The Protest Thread.
Well said. We might all have different positions and perspectives, but I really value the reasoned opinion given on here even if it doesn't align with my beliefs. Things I've learnt on here have certainly changed my views on a number of topics, so I do hope nobody gives up expressing their views even if it can be frustrating at times.Rich B wrote: Thu Jul 25, 2024 9:32 pm i’m not too bothered about being right or wrong on here any more - i like it when i learn something tbh - whether it’s something i agree with or not, and that’s something you add a lot to.

Re: The Protest Thread.
I honestly thought we were all just posting our different and sometimes contrary opinions rather than attempting to determine some kind of ontological truth about essence of peaceful protest.

I was just saying thanks for the info I wasn’t aware of.
I’ve been mostly enjoying the debate.

The number of people in the replies who genuinely think it's real is....deeply concerning.
Well it was, till I had a look at the profile of the poster:

Re: The Protest Thread.
That's literally what Mik is saying when he says it 'caught' people.

I think being facetious while we’re simultaneously seeing some quite extreme consequences of climate change is a significant part of the problem tbh.

Re: The Protest Thread.
I thought his response to the "logic" of their post was well made.
Re: The Protest Thread.
It’s a Mr Logic argument that ignores the context.
It’s clear what the intent of the op was. TSB was just trying to score a point.
Like, disagree with the intent or whatever of jso but if your best argument to the content is a well actually about language you look like a bit of smug cunt.

Arguments always work far better when they stick to the facts though. if i want daft comparisons and weird statements I’ll just come on here and start a conversation with Broccers.ZedLeg wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:29 am I think being facetious while we’re simultaneously seeing some quite extreme consequences of climate change is a significant part of the problem tbh.

His point was to challenge the linking of scenarios presented by JSO.ZedLeg wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 8:02 am Like, disagree with the intent or whatever of jso but if your best argument to the content is a well actually about language you look like a bit of smug cunt.
If an individual decided to chop random people's heads off as a protest to the famine in South Sudan, and was subsequently incarcerated for murder : it would be OK for the Just Stop South Sudan Famine group to state that the judge had decreed that all the famine-related deaths in South Sudan were acceptable?
