Another MOT passed for the Stepwagon. As usual, the advisories I ignored from last time have disappeared and new ones have appeared

Ahead of its 18th birthday (and nearly 6 years since I bought it) I might send it off to get underseal topped up, a proper service and to see if the suspension advisories are actually worth worrying about.

MOT due on the M2 tomorrow. i finally replaced the faulty rear light that required a whack* with your fist to consistently work through the MoT test. I might need some new front tyres, but other than that it should be plain sailing.

*TADT - there’s a weird fault with some of the led lights that no one seems to have properly solved. the short term fix is to hit them and they’ll work for 5 mins before giving up.

Fabia, failed the MOT on the handbrake. So that needs doing, and a better handbrake will be no bad thing for loose surfaces. Also going to get the starter motor replaced while they have it as increasingly it just clicks when you turn the key, need to try it a few times before it fires into life.

Yes, in reality, you can strip the light, pull the LED ring and get an electronics specialist to solder on in, but the above is the official fix.

Yes, in reality, you can strip the light, pull the LED ring and get an electronics specialist to solder on in, but the above is the official fix.

same solution, but MUCH lower cost. new cluster was about £230.

Golf should be delivered between 1-6pm tomorrow, it's a bit weird buying a car you've never seen or driven before, I've done it with my company car, but that's not really my money so bothered me less

Once it's been here a week I can get a couple of required bits for it, need a boot mat to stem the flow of Retriever hair and a new booster seat for the boy as he's getting too tall for his full seat now, his shoulders are nearly touching the top wings, supposed to do upto 12 years and he's only just gone 8

I'm also pretty set on getting a GTI rear valance and back box for it, as I really don't like fake exhausts, and the GTE diffuser looks pretty poor IMO.

Golf here, it's pretty much as described, no major damage anywhere, it's had a repair to the nsr at some point as there's over spray and masking marks, nothing a clay bar won't fix.

Needs wiper blades, and a proper clean.

210 quid for two years of VW connected services so you can use pre heat, remote functions etcs

All that is free on the Kuga, but surprised but not a lot in the grand scheme of things.

Drives well, surprisingly swift, feels lighter than I expected from the reviews, it corners pretty flat in sports mode and handles mid corner bumps well.

It doesn't like oncoming traffic

It tried stop itself three time over the moors as it thought we were going to have a head on crash, modern cars do not like single track roads, the Kuga is very similar, luckily you can alter the sensitivity and it's reactions so that's turned down now.

Quite a nice looking thing as well, better in real life than in pictures.

VXR8 had an issue with the rear (LED) lights in that the indicators would flash rapidly in cold weather. Original market for Holden Commodore was Oz, but they were also sold with minor styling tweaks as the Pontiac G8 in the US - which obviously gets cold in the North.

Solution was an extra bit of loom for each rear cluster - supplied FOC by Vauxhall when you asked. Plug one end into the existing loom, the other into the lamp unit - presumably changing the resistance subtley to prevent it.

Both front and back? I owned a Corrado in 1999-2000 and had had it 6 months when I looked out of the window one morning and realised the front reg plate wasn't my registration. Two digits transposed but the back one was correct. The dealer I'd bought it from had put a new MOT on it, which was also for the wrong reg. Took a bit of sorting out.

Having had a run out to take the boy to chess club tonight, out over the tops in the rain, FWD really is annoying when you have many torques and rain.

I think a bit could be the tyres tbf (Michelin Primacy?4) so I'll get the Pirelli CF3s ordered tomorrow.
