Well there's an argument that the team took and then returned the other win, and he merited it. But it's not just the wins, he's been getting stronger and more consistent all season, it's not something you see from every driver at his stage. So, I don't know about the second coming, just saying he's on a path that suggests he's here to stay as a top driver.Delphi wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 5:22 pm Piastri's a very good driver, but one good win doesn't make a career or a season. It's his first win on merit and everyone thinks he's the second coming.
I've always said LeClerc is overrated - nothing I've seen from him makes me think he's World Champion material.
I agree about Leclerc, quick on his day but always has an error or an inconsistent performance in him.
Re: No F1 thread?
We could see lawson, antonelli, bearman, colapinto and possibly doohan on the grid next season. Im all for it.

Re: No F1 thread?
So looks like RB could be under threat for 2nd in the constructors championship. Ferraris looked good this weekend.
Perez finished behind Russell who started from the pit lane.
Norris a bit naive for not giving the place back. Max was getting scrappy, you know he’s going to fight dirty and push you off. Blend out at a sensible place to lose minimal time.
At that point he would have been better letting max run into him and take them both out, at least he wouldn’t be gaining points.
Oh, and tv producers, when there is a tight battle for podium positions, a driver on the cusp of drs entering a drs zone, we don’t want a 10 second shot of the crew looking nervous on the pit wall before you cut back to the cars after turn 1

The film director was shit today.
Stewarding was also shit, they didn't care for the first third of the race then woke up.
Max pushed Lando wide but at that point it was clear that Lando not giving back the place would result in a penalty. I don’t think the McLaren pit wall are very good in these moments. They’re too biased when it comes to things like this, then falsely reassure their driver, then get into a weird feedback loop where the driver reassures the team…

Re: No F1 thread?
It was worthwhile to watch Anthony Davidson's analysis on the MV/LN incident. Max is just the master at that move, hogging the inside and then running them out and off the road, which apparently is legal. Not a nice move in terms of the racing, but until they look at the rules, I guess it'll keep happening.
I must say, this is by far the most impressive WDC title Max has won though. It's undeniable that he's the class of the field this year.

Re: No F1 thread?
Enjoyed that, in fact the last half a dozen races have been night and day compared to anything from 2022 or 2023.
Re: No F1 thread?
As noted before - I hate the fact that every race series other than F1 requires you to leave room for other drivers. The specific F1 rules are just creating loads of new issues.
Lap1 Corner 1 - Stapp runs Norris off the track. Well of course.
And this one later - Norris is well ahead approaching the corner, so you might think it qualifies as "his corner", but Stapp knows fine well that the rule is who is ahead at the apex > brake stoopid late to nose ahead at said apex - meaning no chance of making the exit - no matter : just run wide and push Norris wider yet to ensure the overtake can't count. Super dirty / super smart depending on your perspective.
Note: not sure this will embed - if not the move I am referring to is around 5min30s

Re: No F1 thread?
I think it's both, but at the end of the day he's entitled to drive in that way according to the rules, so why wouldn't he? The FIA need to fix it.
I'd say it takes a fair amount of skill to execute it so consistently.
Re: No F1 thread?
It's hard to argue against that, but I get the impression that if the FIA allowed podium eye-gouging then all the drivers would reject the opportunity to permanently blind their opponents, except Max, who would be having his nails sharpened at the end of every race (with a super-efficient nail sharpener that RB developed for him).duncs500 wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 2:36 pm at the end of the day he's entitled to drive in that way according to the rules, so why wouldn't he? Is anyone aware of issues with the old "you need to leave room if there is someone on the outside of you" rule that still applies across other series? The FIA seem to be busy trying to fix for F1 a non-issue, and then just making a total mess of it....

Re: No F1 thread?
The annoying thing is a lot of the time when max does it he also goes off the track, it would be more acceptable if he pushed close to the limits without blatantly piling in clearly with no intention to make the corner.
Maybe others need to start down by the same. Just stick rigidly to the inside line then don’t turn until the other car has to go off track to get around you knowing you’re pretty much invincible.

Sorry to bring this up again, but someone else was highlighting to me that - if we apply the current (stoopid) F1 rule:duncs500 wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 2:36 pm

Only partly

Re: No F1 thread?

In this case F1 rules kind of just favour the car in front to execute his corner however he sees fit in many cases irrespective of what the overtaker is doing, which makes it easy to push off someone on the outside.
Sadly it ignores that it's already mostly a long way round / suboptimal to go round the outside, so IMO those kind of overtakes should not be negatively impacted by the rules.
