no, i’ve barely ridden at all this year to be honest!John wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 10:11 amDo you ride all year?Rich B wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 9:00 am yeah, i have a 17 mile (or 25 miles if i use the motorway) journey to work. it takes between 40m-1hr usually (my best late night run was under 30mins).
My fastest bike time so far has been 42mins. but even taking it easy, it only takes about 50 mins.
we’re moving office soon and we have nice new showers with towels provided, so i’m going to try and take advantage of that and ride more.
I usually ride between the clock changes so March to October, been chilly this week though.

I would ride all year around, only because I invested in full winter kit from head to toe. Winter cycling boots, merino-lined bib tights, high-quality waterproof/windproof jacket, windproof gloves, full-length mudguards with splash guards going as close to the road as possible. All of these combined made winter cycling a pleasure once past the first 10 minutes needed to warmup.

I’m still trying to decide whether I’m going to keep commuting by bike through winter.
I felt the cold this morning so I could do with some gloves and more weatherproof shoes.

I wear gloves when I'm cycling even in summer these days - it's a bit of protection.

That did happen when I first bought a cheap Castelli waterproof which was like cycling in a bin liner. However, expensive breathable gear is the solution. I justified the cost by saving 1.5 gallons of fuel per day

I can see the appeal after having to heal bone and ligament damage in both hands at the same time

That’s my problem with buying wet/cold weather gear. The cheap stuff is shite and I’m not sure I’m dedicated enough to winter commuting to spend a lot.Gavster wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 12:57 pm![]()

Absolutely glad that as the electric bike that got dunked, he was ripping down that shared-use pathway way too quickly.

IMHO : cyclist is completely wrong here. Emergency vehicle - taxi indicates intentions clearly and slows down to let it past. Cyclist has to slow (could have moved left if they really wanted to) and is therefore marginally inconvenienced. Mountain molehill etc.
