Harry’s Garage
Re: Harry’s Garage
How much £ for a car that shares the same shitty tech as a 2011 E class minicab.

Re: Harry’s Garage
Not really a fan.
I loved the Victor, but this just looks a bit weird.
The rear lights look like a load of those 70s truck marker lights, and seem sat too low so the big slab of paint which forms the ducktail looks like a massive forehead
Exposed gear mechanism is another odd choice, it’s buried in the tunnel so it’s only exposed from above, not very pretty, doesn’t look particularly snickety or a marvel of engineering. I’m sure it would get full of muck, fluff and crumbs. Just stick a leather (or tweed) gaiter on it.
Given all the other custom / low volume parts you’d have thought they could have made a new dash moulding to house more modern / current screens. Not that it’s really anything I’m into or bothered about, but surely spending that much you’d expect current gen tech?

I rolled my eyes when I saw another big SUV review but it was pretty interesting for the future of VAG performance cars.
An absolute unit
Re: Harry’s Garage
Wish we could get those wheels but they’re limited to that model Cayenne. I was surprised at his economy; I don’t think I regret ordering an old-school V8 but ask me again when my wife decides to do 20,000 miles a year in it.
Re: Harry’s Garage
That V8 has a really nice sound to it aswell, it’s not blaring and flat like a lot of modern engines.

Re: Harry’s Garage
Just confirms more to me that our next line up will likely be pure electric for my wife (EQB currently topping that list, or maybe an Enyaq if we don't want to spend so much) with me having a fast hybrid estate.

In an absolute non shocker, Harry is very pleased with his Macca.
Re: Harry’s Garage
I was bemused at him being impressed at Bluetooth music streaming
Still in the honeymoon period I think. At least nothing seems to have broken. I'm definitely not a fan of the looks.

I've never found McLarens very pretty. Functional aerodynamic swoopyness and impressive because of what it is but not gorgeous.
Re: Harry’s Garage
I really enjoyed that. The car is growing on me too and the speed is insane.
I’m hoping another restoration is in the pipeline even if his wallet doesn’t want to.

I like the 650S. It’s a big improvement over the MP4 despite not looking all that different.
Re: Harry’s Garage
Strange how they insist on a tracker....considering they're basically useless these days and I can't see a Mac a being a huge theft target either.
Re: Harry’s Garage
Electric Mini video this week didn't look like it was going to be interesting but I enjoyed it. And I like the car; not sure I think torque steer is a fun novelty these days - to live with that novelty would quickly wear off - but despite weighing the best part of 1.7 tonnes and only having a sub-50kWh battery it manages a genuine 230-240 mile range which is amazing. Finally an EV other than a Tesla getting up towards 5mi/kWh. Shame it was only a grand cheaper than a Model 3 in the form Harry tested though.
I had a look on the Mini configurator and see they offer a Cooper E which has a bit less power (184bhp rather than 218bhp) but a 25% battery and therefore a bit less weight. Range is ~180 miles and the price is £4500 less. Though once depreciation has hit, the only one to buy will be the bigger battery version I imagine.
Also realised the easy way to tell the difference between the petrol and EV Minis; the petrol ones still have the black plastic wheelarches which have gone on the EV.

Unfortunately because it was a boring car I didn't pay much attention the mini video. All I need to know is can you turn the silly noises off?

Re: Harry’s Garage
I'd be interested to see how the Mini compares to the new Alpine A290. Similar power but I believe the Alpine should be 150-200kg lighter.
Tesla due to go back in December and tempted to go for a smaller car this time.

Re: Harry’s Garage
I have no doubt that it uses the same 'sound symposium' thing that BMWs use, and that can be coded out - so someone will no doubt add it to a Bimmerlink type app soon enough.speedingfine wrote: Tue Aug 20, 2024 12:06 pm Unfortunately because it was a boring car I didn't pay much attention the mini video. Forum favourite on tonights vid.
I remember a brief drive of Daves E500 (when Bri owned it) and was impressed with it. Such a cool machine.
