I hope it holds up for him. There have been a few holes locally that look like they've been rush bodge filled - lob it in, whack the top wit' shovel - and they're holding up so far even after lots of rain that could have been expected to wash them out.

I reported a bunch of potholes 2 months ago, just had a look on their fault tracker to see what’s happened as the large potholes are now craters. They all say the following:

“enquiry attended - more work needed”

What does that mean? In previous instances they used to write something like “investigated - repairs planned”

Fixed! They did a proper job overnight, actually cut the potholes out and put in a proper repair rather than just using tarmac like filler and having a fat man jump on it.

There's been a road closure in a village close to me, due to one of the lanes having part of it subside with all the rain we had last year...annoying as it's part of the back road route I use to get to Ipswich, when i'm unfortunate enough to have to go there.

It's been closed since November last year...I've been naughty and sneaked through the road block several times on my motorbike.

I occasionally check to see if Suffolk Highways have finally set a date to repair the road...still nothing.

Someone posted this on faceyb today...the villagers are obviously getting pretty frustrated!

I often wonder how fast the country would go to irrecoverable shit if we had proper natural disasters.
Had a small landslide in Folkestone on a key road to the harbour in January. They’re gonna investigate it in September. No doubt hundreds of thousands of £ down the shitter whilst some experts says “yeah it rained too much and you got a landslide” and they go off to buy some supercars afterwards.

Same thing happens in the Alps and it’s a week job to get it sorted.

I went to Wales on holiday last week. The roads were excellent and 500k buys a lot of house.

Obv there is less work but given I work remotely most of the time it is very tempting.

I'll not say things couldn't be better, but I'll also not say - all things being equal - I'd expect anywhere else to do things better.

Some clever sausage has paid a construction firm to pour a runny tarmac mix over all the paths in Market Deeping.

So the divots, pot marked areas are the same but now black. They have just given it a rough and un-even surface, partly covered drains and covers for services and generally left a messy finish which looks awful. Well done South Kesteven council, you’ve wasted no doubt millions.

I assume that whoever signs it off as a job well done is both blind and being run through by the boss of the construction company at the same time ?

They did this around my parents estate, tarmac slurry or something they call it. A slightly gritty tar.

Visually it looks slightly better initially as it makes everything the same colour and hid all the patches various utilities had chopped in over the years. It does little to nothing to actually fill any holes, and soon starts wearing away leaving an even more patchy and ugly finish than before they started!

I’ve been off work for a week so looking forward to my first commute to see where they’ve tar an chilled the roads on the hottest day of the year like they usually do with terrible results.

They did this here in Timperley on one of the really bad roads between us and the village. Didn't fill potholes first - just slurried it all. Absolute shite

Meanwhile Cheshire East Council have resurfaced a section of the A34 D/C at Wilmslow that they resurfaced only a few years ago. Both times with loose chippings on what was a high standard surface before. And at no point has the surface actually needed it as there were no defects. Must have cost a fortune. Meanwhile the A-road past our office and the local centre, just 100yds away from the A34, is crumbling away and just recently had some awful attempts to patch repair potholes that have already failed. Shambolic

It’s embarrassing when you see what happens overseas. Ground workers in the U.K. are generally lacking in any kind of skill.

It’s also more expensive in the long run. My mate does the concrete slabs that go under the tarmac for motorways and some dual carriageways here - he’s always replacing concrete slabs because the tarmac has deteriorated so badly that it’s damaged the concrete underneath so we’re not even getting half the service life from it.

They did the tarmac slurry thing near us - in spite of cones, barriers etc, someone drove along the path in their wheelchair while it was still drying and we were left with two wheel marks in perpetuity.

I have, just this morning! The thing is, it was just a single section (actually a few single sections over a couple of miles). Much better than what was there before, which you can still see between them. Utterly bizarre. Do the whole bloody road!
