Already had them. I had them refurb with new valves , springs , helpers etc a short while back so didn’t recon again this time

Did a trackday as well at Anglesey after an enforced hiatus due to ACL reconstruction

How's the ACL healing? Hope you're OK.

I am 51 weeks to the day on from the op. Its generally heading in the right direction. I have followed the physio and consultants advice to the letter and been almost religious in my exercises / rehab.

I haven't got any signs of graft failure so that's all good. The meniscus repair seems solid as well. I have just started a transition back into football and experiencing localised serious inflammation on my hamstring where the graft was harvested but apparently its to be expected!

I have a better quality of life now its been repaired than the somewhat knackered knee.

Andy, by complete coincidence my wife was telling me last night about her nephew having had a graft from his hamstring to repair a knee injury and that he's not allowed to play football again - he's only 27. Are you playing football against advice or is your physician OK with it?

I've had quite a bit of bad luck with my right ACL. Tore it playing football originally. Had it fixed with my right hamstring and after recovery I went back to playing football - my surgeon didn't say I couldn't go back to playing at the time.

I ruptured that original fix again playing football and had to have a 2 stage operation to remove the original graft and then another graft put in using my left hamstring. I retired from playing football after that, wasn't worth it I thought.

However that didn't seem to matter. I slipped walking to my golf ball last December and fell awkwardly managing to rupture that 2nd ACL reconstruction. Had that all removed in May again, and have to wait a minimum of 6 months before I can have another reconstruction - I don't have to do it so I'm 50/50 on it at the moment. It's not a great on the recovery side, as it takes months to get back to "normal". I've known friends who have had the same original op and been fine. I think I was just unlucky...

My wife’s waiting for surgery number 5 and acl repair number 3, in a saga that started in 2020

She tore her natural acl at the start of first lockdown, had to wait around 2-3 months for scans to confirm and didn’t get surgery until late 2020, with them performing the hamstring repair mentioned by others

She then went back to work early 2021, but still suffering pain. The surgeon went in and had a look, cleaned it out and trimmed her miniscus (an action that has caused more problems ) then the repair snapped completely later that year, then had to wait a couple of months for more surgery with a new surgeon in 2022, this time using patella tendon, anchored with bone grafts rather than screws- the surgeon noted significant arthritis in the knee joint, so recommended a surgery that transplanted cartilage coated bone from outside the knee joint into the damaged area

So in 2023 she had that surgery, no load bearing for 6 weeks. Got on her feet and back to work and felt a familiar twang. Now confirmed not actually torn but the repair to her acl has significantly stretched so has the same symptoms and pain as it doesn’t give support

Surgeon now says that there’s something with the shape of her knee joint causing it to pull- so number 5 is to sort the acl but also do an osteotomy, to reshape her knee joint

Can’t help but wonder if a knee replacement would sort her out but as she’s only 40 she’s too young for funding and don’t have the money for a private op, but it’s awful seeing her not having any decent mobility for the last 4 years- she was getting around with a rollator at one point

My physician isn’t against playing football again. Said leave it 12mo and you’re good to go.

I have been told to forget skiing again though!

Finally spent a bit of time figuring out why the pivot on the bike rack isn't working. Turns out it is, but the mechanism is so stiff, that the foot pedal can't withdraw the pins. Pushing them in manually with some pressure on the pedal made it work.

Wasn't without cost though.


It is brilliant being able to access the boot with bikes on. Only downside is that when the car is fully loaded it sits so low on the springs that the rack doesn't tilt enough to let the boot open without help. Seeking out an uneven surface helps.

Mrs Jobbo has given approval to me wrapping the MX5. And I have found alloys that I like which clear the Brembo calipers: Advan Racing TC4. I don't plan to go JDM-yo with coloured wheelnuts though; I don't particularly want a stud conversion even.

I'm a fan of body coloured wheels and think grey on grey would look fab as well

For the FTAO Lotus afficionados: I'm going to refresh the interior of the Lotus over the winter, and getting a nice set of seat pads for the Tilletts is one of the additions coming. You can basically customise them however you want, but rather than having "teh duncs500" stitched into them, my approach to my Elise upgrades as always been a kind of OEM++ feel rather than super individual.

The Lotus badge always looks a bit weedy to me on seats:



I think it works a lot better with the heritage wreath around it like this:



However, AFAIK this logo is usually the preserve of heritage special editions (which mine is not). Is it sacrilege or does it really matter?

I was also toying with designing something unique and giving a nod to Honda:



...but I don't think I fancy it.

Atomic Teal, same as James from Throttle House's car. I went and got a swatch and it's definitely right.

And white alloys for nostalgia, definitely. If they work; I'll not get any wheels until the wrap is done so I can be certain. Grey might be better.
