2018 Evo tyre test
Re: 2018 Evo tyre test
Isn’t Nankang one of the more ‘respectable’ crap tyre brands?
Either they they probably have better grip in the wet/very cold weather than a premium track tyre.
I’m just looking at the old Evo tyre reviews and they seem pretty inconsistent. Let’s take the Continental SportContact 6 as it appears in all these tests.
2018: Placed 4th. 235/35 R19 Ford Fiesta ST
If you’re looking for a tyre that excels in the dry and will make your car feel keen and precise, this is a great choice. Fastest and best-rated on the dry track, and felt sportiest on the road. The downside is that in the wet it was off the pace and tricky
2017: Placed 3rd. 225/40 R18 Golf GTI
Positive: Fast in the wet, subjectively great in the dry and excellent on the road.
Negative: Slowest tyre in the dry, felt a little disconnected in the wet.
2016: Placed 1st. 235/35 R19 Focus ST
Overall: Third fastest and best braking in the dry, extremely competent in the wet and solid road manners mean the new Sport Contact 6 wins. The best all round tyre on test.
I understand natural tyre progression meaning newer tyres will be better in general but how did it go from being the slowest tyre to the fastest?

How about not having a sig at all?

Maybe they made it better yeah?

The NSR2 and AR1 are quite good track/road options by all accounts, and the AR1 is the control tyre for the M3 Cup and 330 Challenge. I'll probably get some AR1's for the Spazda when I finish it (in the Space Year 1,000,000).NotoriousREV wrote: Mon Sep 03, 2018 12:01 pm There was a post going round on our local Facebook pages, some lad had his E46 M3 stolen that was apparently his pride and joy (as you'd expect). One of the identifying features of his car was that he'd just fitted brand new Nankang tyres. Deserved to have it taken off him for that.

For those of you defending Nankang tyres, for Nankang insert the name of some shitty budget tyres as I can’t remember the actual brand, I just always use Nankang as a generic name.

The sheer number of crap brands is actually quite staggering. Take a scroll down the bottom end of this list for example:

£33 quid for the cheapest where the premium brand are £90!

Linglongs on my 968 and I recall a mate had a Primera GT back in the day with a pair of Darkhorses on the rear_andy wrote: Tue Sep 04, 2018 7:56 pmI prefer Lucky Goodride or Ditchfinder Generals.NotoriousREV wrote: Tue Sep 04, 2018 7:27 pm For those of you defending Nankang tyres, for Nankang insert the name of some shitty budget tyres as I can’t remember the actual brand, I just always use Nankang as a generic name.
Re: 2018 Evo tyre test
From that Camskill link the Linglongs look to be near-premium these days
(in price if nothing else!)

Re: 2018 Evo tyre test
I never even knew some of those brands actually existed! Thought it was just internet lollery

Re: 2018 Evo tyre test
Eastern Western wanted to fit "Deestone" non runflats to the BMW before we bought it. I declined. Its now got Pirelli's on it.

The exact reason any car or bike I buy gets a new set of tyres in the first week at the latest.Jobbo wrote: Mon Sep 03, 2018 9:13 pm Imagine buying second-hand tyres. Well, you do so whenever you buy a used car. Just having a Michelin logo doesn’t mean they haven’t been run low on pressure, kerbed etc.
Re: 2018 Evo tyre test
Had some Zeta's on the Fabia vRS when I got it. They defined shit. Would wheelspin in 4th in the wet with a fucked clutch. I fitted Matadors which got some surprisingly good reviews and then the clutch was shown up immediately! The Zeta were brand new and I changed them after 2 weeks as they were dangerous.
Looking for a set for the scooby in the next month or so I might have read and see what's what.

I had Matadors on my Cavalier SRi because I was poor. The fronts lasted 2000 miles
