Re: No F1 thread?
I see they've released the first teaser trailer from the forthcoming Brad Pitt movie to coincide with this.
Cheers,
Mike.

Tense race!
Shame McLaren blundered things in a couple of places, but it really was great to see Hamilton win again, especially at home.
Glad that we've got lots of different drivers winning now, not just a bore-fest of dominance by a single driver.

Re: No F1 thread?
Yeah, it’s weird that they’ve merged fiction with the actual F1 races too - as F1 fans we will all watch it and then think it’s shit and horrifically inaccurate.
I guess more for the DTS type crowd.

Re: No F1 thread?
That was a great race. Glad to see Lewis win, McLaren properly fucked up. Lando well pissed off in the interviews
As for the movie. How many illegal overtakes will there be? And for ultimate realism max needs to take out both drivers at some point in the race

Re: No F1 thread?
I’m kinda going off Lando, every race now he tries to get other drivers penalised by complaining about everything he possibly can.
Perhaps football would suit him better.

Re: No F1 thread?
I don’t think it’s unique to lando, they all do it- just for some reason f1 decides to broadcast his comments. They’re in constant communication all through the race but the tv coverage makes it look like they say about 3 things to eachotherMito Man wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 6:25 pm I’m kinda going off Lando, every race now he tries to get other drivers penalised by complaining about everything he possibly can.

However I’m not sure he’s up to the pressure of front running at the moment. Maybe needs a sports psychologist to work some magic on him to get his head right
Re: No F1 thread?
Lando talking like he just threw away the title when he was never in it was a bit cringe.
Great to see Hamilton back on top and breaking records. Feel for George, engines seem to have been reliable as of late so hopefully a one off.
We should be looking forward to the rest of the season, should be the best since 2021.

Re: No F1 thread?
Is their any substance to the theory that RB are trying not to win the constructors in order to secure wind tunnel development time?
I'm assuming the prize money outweighs the wind tunnel benefit, but it is curious how bad Perez is!

Trying not to win the constructors championship this year so you can get more wind tunnel time to win the constructors championship next year....
Yeah, I'm not buying that.

Re: No F1 thread?
I genuinely can't understand the Perez thing. Why has he gone off a cliff in terms of performance? And why did they re-sign him?
Re: No F1 thread?
If you come third in the constructors you only win $18 million less - peanuts for the big teams, especially in the cost cap era but you get 960 hours wind tunnel time instead of 840. Showing this year with the rate of upgrades and momentum from McLaren, Ferrari and finally Mercedes. Least car development during the season has been Red Bull.
So there is merit in winning the driver’s championship and losing the constructors.

Re: No F1 thread?
It seems counter productive I agree, but I expect there's a lot of indirect commercial benefits to winning the WDC. If you weigh it up, perhaps it's not the worst idea if they feel the penalty vs the other teams in wind tunnel terms puts their chances of being competitive next year at risk.Rich B wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 12:14 pm Trying not to win the constructors championship this year so you can get more wind tunnel time to win the constructors championship next year....

Re: No F1 thread?
Perez brings massive amounts of sponsorship money so maybe he’s in more of a pay driver position now

if you have the capability to win this year, why would you assume that you'll be 100 hours of wind tunnel development behind winning next year?duncs500 wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 12:55 pmIt seems counter productive I agree, but I expect there's a lot of indirect commercial benefits to winning the WDC. Theres absolutely zero chance of a team forfeiting a constructors championship for the chance of winning one next year. There arefar too many variables in F1 to make that gamble.
Plus, they are still over 70 points ahead of Ferrari.
Re: No F1 thread?
Next year they can start work on the 26 reg cars which are totally different with active aero. Every extra wind tunnel hour can be used for that car.

Re: No F1 thread?
How stupid would they feel if they gave up this years championship only to see another team "do a Brawn" next year.Mito Man wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 1:13 pm Next year they can start work on the 26 reg cars which are totally different with active aero. I just don't buy it in any way shape or form. The racing drivers mantra and every other saying holds true - if you don't take the gap you're not racing, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, etc....

Re: No F1 thread?
Does the Constructor's Title have that much cachet? It's the Driver's Title that everyone remembers and the team is tagged along with that.Rich B wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 1:24 pmHow stupid would they feel if they gave up this years championship only to see another team "do a Brawn" next year.Mito Man wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 1:13 pm Next year they can start work on the 26 reg cars which are totally different with active aero. Re: No F1 thread?
So you're really implying that they're asking Perez to drive badly, or worse, asking his mechanics to sabotage his car.
Why would either party do that?
Why would either party do that?
Re: No F1 thread?
No, Perez is just a crap driver, but Red Bull don’t seem to mind. They renewed his contract and for being a team that were happy to bin off a driver every 6 months it’s a bit telling that they’re sticking with him.
