Skiers and Snowboarders - a question
Skiers and Snowboarders - a question
Have you ever, or would you ever go on a Solo trip??
Tempted this year as none or the other options really work. Wrong time, wrong resort, third wheel etc.
I quite like the idea to be honest (and would go somewhere I’ve never been able to convince others to go) but a few people who I’ve mentioned to think I’m nuts. Mainly the “what if you have an accident?” but that’s what insurance is for…

Yeah, I don't see why not. I'd treat it as a bit of an "explore" type trip rather than sessioning the same runs in a smaller resort. That way you have an aim for the day (somewhere with multiple parks to traverse) rather than having to motivate yourself to do more single/few runs without having your mates to get excited with/share experiences after.

Yeah I know what you mean.
We have always gone to Les Gets / Morzine or Kitzbuhel but I’m thinking of either Zermatt or Cortina this time. I have a lot of cash from my 50th so treating myself.

My BiL went by himself, but as part of an organised group of solo travellers, a few years ago. He could ski to his heart's content as part of the group and in the evenings decide whether he fancied being sociable or not. He enjoyed it.

To be honest, I love my own company so the social side isn’t an issue. You always get chatting with people in Gondolas and on lifts, in care’s etc.

I’ve done loads of solo travel although not snow sports. Don’t see why it wouldn’t be a blast, as long as you’ve got safety kit in case you end up in a heap behind a tree somewhere. The idea of freedom to disappear off and explore anywhere on the mountain sounds awesome.

There is something really enjoyable about being in a restaurant and reading a book too, may aswell do what suits you from time to time.

I think I'd actively choose not to be part of any organised trip, I think the complete independence element would actually be half the appeal.DeskJockey wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 8:48 pm My BiL went by himself, but as part of an organised group of solo travellers, a few years ago. I'd stick to main runs though - I wouldn't want to ruin some other random people's day if I got myself in trouble away from the main infrastructure!

Oh yeah, I’m not good enough for that sort of thing. Resort Reds and Blue’s only for me
Re: Skiers and Snowboarders - a question
Haven't but I would - have stayed in chalets with solo travellers though and they usually did a mix of tagging on to groups that had invited them and doing their own thing. Mix in a bit of private off-piste guiding or instruction and you can fill a week pretty easily.

I think it was partly convenience because he just bought the trip and they organised everything, and partly I guess to have the option to be social with someone vaguely known if he wanted.Rich B wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:57 pmI think I'd actively choose not to be part of any organised trip, I think the complete independence element would actually be half the appeal.DeskJockey wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 8:48 pm My BiL went by himself, but as part of an organised group of solo travellers, a few years ago. But, I'm like you in that regard. When I backpacked the only organisation I did before leaving (apart from required paperwork and vaccinations) was the flights to NZ, from there to Oz and home (and that changed along the way). Everything else I decided on the spot. But, as I'm very social that meant booking onto to organised things and seeking out company when I wanted to.
