FAO Shed whores. Maybe FAO Mito?
FAO Shed whores. Maybe FAO Mito?
Got a new shed delivered and assembled today. A 10x4 pent shed to replace the rotting 6x4 apex that was tucked down in my side return behind the garage. As sheds go, it's great! Much easier to store our collection of garden tat and lawn mower (singular!).
Despite having two good sized windows the wife and I looked at each other this afternoon and jointly said 'it needs a light'.
So, I don't want to faff with running power out to it, naturally, and I see there are a few simple CHEAP solar shed light kits around. Has anyone got one and what's it like? It doesn't need to light up like my 70 watts of garage LED lighting, just enough to provide some light as we are tidying the kids garden things away at the end of the day as the evenings draw in.
Also, any recommendations for good garden tool storage? Some sort of board with clips on to hold the spade, rake, broom, etc?

I’ve used these sorts of lights before

I think it’s ok for what you want if you just want to go in at the evening to fetch something and not walk face first into a rake.
Don’t know about storing larger items, I just place them standing up in a corner. These magnetic strips are very handy for smaller hand tools though

Thanks Mito, that's the sort of thing I was looking for! Cheers.

I want a new shed but going to build one with next year's bonus rather than buy one. The prices are just unbelievable for what you're getting.
I'll have free labour which does help.

To be honest, I paid around £1100 for our 10x4 and when I stand in it I'm really impressed with the value.dinny_g wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 10:33 am I want a new shed but going to build one with next year's bonus rather than buy one. The prices are just unbelievable for what you're getting.

That includes some upgrades too - heavy duty roofing felt, toughened rather than horticultural glass, a 3ft door rather than 2'6", and 'easy access' (where the cut the shed into panels to fit through the house (my garage is too cluttered for them to have come straight through it)).

I'm looking for more of a workshop type thing - 20' x 10' minimum so can be up to £3k before you add in leccy and other bits and pieces.
Re: FAO Shed whores. Maybe FAO Mito?
I think including g a hardwood ply base and roof, my 8 x 6 shed cost me £800 in material 10 years ago.

I'll be pouring a concrete base as my design has covered outdoor space off the side, accessed by double doors etc.
I'll do a build thread when the time comes...

Mine sits on 4 slabs in gravel, it means air gets all sides of the wood, still perfect 10 years later and the original felt. Bitumen the roof a few times, then felt and pin onto wet bitumen. Far far better than felt straight onto wood.

If you can put a decent overhang for the roof the building will last pretty much indefinitely.dinny_g wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 2:39 pm I'll be pouring a concrete base as my design has covered outdoor space off the side, accessed by double doors etc.

Just for clarity - or not, as the case may be - I didn't take this picture.V8Granite wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 3:57 pm Mine sits on 4 slabs in gravel, it means air gets all sides of the wood, still perfect 10 years later and the original felt.
