The SCOTUS has given former Presidents absolute immunity from prosecution for official acts taken while in office. That's just insane.

So they get immunity for "official" acts but not "unofficial" ones

He's going to be in and out of court for the rest of his life.

That was actually brought up in the earlier legal deliberations and Trumps lawyers agreed that a president can assassinate their rivals, justification IIRC being that getting re-elected is part of the job and thus “official” business.

The door is wide open for Biden to solve this whole problem of “will trump get elected” quite quickly. And all the MAGAs are fine with it.

So it's basically a game of Simon Says now?

"As The President of the United States of America..."

Then whatever comes later is covered by the immunity of the office

Trump packed the SCOTUS with republicans just for such an event, so it's no surprise. The problem with the Dems is that they will "take the high road" whilst the Republicans will always play dirty. Dems need to start playing by the republican rule book.

Yes, and there's more devil in the details. Anything done using the president's powers is automatically official business. They've backed this up by specifying that the reasons for him taking those actions cannot be used as evidence of wrongdoing. Signing a law because he got a huge bribe ? That bribe is legally irrelevant. Can't be held against him.

America is proper fcuked if he gets back in. There will also be chaos if he doesn't get back in, he'll have the Supreme Court backing him up to overturn the result.

Europe (and I'm including the UK in that) needs to be ready for war with Russia. Trump will gleefully sell us out for a few billion dollars in his bank account.

Biden standing down for someone younger (because he comes across as feckless 30% of the time) and Trump being a malignant naracassist rapist who should be in jail for the rest of his life, can both be things at the same time ;)

Tell me more about why Trump should be allowed to be a candidate! I'm sure the faithful will understand nothing, but we can always hope that some of them finally gain enough sense to walk away from him.

I don't entirely disagree, but sadly this election is a binary choice between the two. One of them will be president and there's a terrifying number of people both-siding it as if it's difficult to understand or something.

I think the disconnect is that while Biden is probably a better person than Trump, on a party level you’d be as well to toss a coin.

Also the supreme court is so stacked with republicans that whoever’s the president, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Here's an example of an official act.
