Porsche Festival, Brands Hatch

Post by simon_g »

Fun day out yesterday at Brands Hatch for the Porsche Festival - they seem to have some anniversary every year but this time their 70th anniversary as a manufacturer.

Unusually they kept the usual paddock area behind the garages free for display of loads of classic motorsport Porsches - 917, 956, 962, 911 GT1 all in attendance and out to look at up close. Tucked away in a garage at the end the 919 hybrid evo that's been smashing records everywhere, mechanics beavering away.

Some decent racing through the day but that 919 making three sets of demo runs was amazing. No official timing but from trying to time it was very much in the ballpark of the current Indy lap record (set by an ex-F1 car in EuroBOSS). Nick Tandy said 192mph max before braking for Paddock Hill bend. There was a 911 RSR lapping for comparison, it was losing 500m+ per lap. There's plenty of footage on youtube but this has it from a few places:

As you'd expect, amazing Porsches all over the place. Official Porsche stand had Weissach versions of both the GT3 RS and GT2 RS as well as the 911R and others. Most of the grass and hard standing full of owners cars old and new. Magnus Walker, Derek Bell, Nick Tandy wandering about at various times.

Some amateruish iphone pics (can't be bothered to link, sorry)

I saw this being towed by a split screen camper on the A20;
