So those aren't NFT's as such (although the line is blurred), it looks like a futuristic 'Second Life' type game. Your buying in game assets.

Brave/stupid of people to start buying stuff for a game that isn't out yet and looks to be very early in dev.

But then people are paying $84,000 for virtual space ships in "Star Citizen" so I don't really understand people anyway.

With every day that passes I seem to understand people just a little bit less.

Funnily enough I was reading an article yesterday about that Wu-Tang Clan album which was recorded, a single CD produced and auctioned-off for $4M or something. They're now selling $1 NFTs which get you a sampler and it reduces the time by when it can be released. I think it was originally not allowed to be distributed publicly until another 100 years time or something.
Cheers,

Mike.

Ah - got it. I'm not sure it's any less tragic though. :)

I'll tag is alongside
- People who randomly give streamers payments for nothing
- People who constantly pay for micro transactions in mobile apps

as things that are strange and confusing to me.

They’re all weird but you can put some of these down to gambling tendencies in people. I think the weirdest psychologically is paying for OnlyFans.

I play Star Trek Fleet Command, it's essentially a bit Farmville in space with IP. I usually spend about £20 a month as it speeds progression and I enjoy it. It's not a stupid amount and is basically a subscription to play (yes you can go FtP but it £20 helps a lot) as it boosts resources earned by about 5x. However if I take a look at the store to purchase everything there is about £20k (To purchase an Enterprise-A from the crappy Kelvin timeline and not the cooler OG timeline is £1500 with 15 £100 packs required, yes you can multipurchase packs up to a certain point) with most packs at £100. There are players that spend a couple of thousand a month on this thing when essentially you shoot little triangles and collect resources. For that they sit at higher levels and can dictate gameplay I guess but that's about it. We had a guy on our server spend so big beyond his means that he lost his apartment as he spent his rent money on the game and maxed all his cards just to win. It doesn't add up to me.

I forgot to add that - far above the others I mentioned, that is totally, completely lost on me. I would get it were it a niche thing, but it's massive. Millions upon millions paying monthly..... All, I assume in the hope they'll get recognised by the women they donate to.

I don’t think it’s as simple as men just paying for porn, which is why I put in psychologically. It’s more like men trying to seek recognition or validation from women.

Another way of looking at it is people are willing to pay for content that (more) fairly compensate the creators, and perhaps feels more bespoke and authentic?

Overly defensive of the practice, and from this rationalisation I can assume DJ either:
1. Pays for OnlyFans
2. Has an OnlyFans
3. Works for OnlyFans

Need Mik to start a poll on this one. :P

The amounts of money some people sink into it would pay for some actual sex.

And in a slightly creepy way, feel as though they slightly own the content maker.

Could be. Is it different to supporting someone's Patreon? I guess the content (especially being sexual) being made to order/request (assuming I understand that correctly) would support that sense.

Do you support someone’s Patreon whilst fantasising that they’ll shag you in return?

Thank you for missing the point. You're paying a content creator to support them creating content that you presumably enjoy (one way or another). What motivates the subscriber isn't the point, I was asking if both don't engender some level of feeling of ownership, whether it is because you want them to shag you or do some fancy woodworking.

If an electrician has a channel where they stream games and fix up old consoles, and you like that content, you can pay for it.

If a lass has a channel where they stimulate their own prostate with freshly bought vegetables, and you like that content, you can pay for for it.

I'm sure there are people who think their parasocial relationship with a camgirl/boy is more than it actually is, but you get that level of weird, idiotic entitlement on regular, not-for-tits Patreon, too.

I'm quite sure OF has it's own systems for booting fucking weirdos who think they're owed something by the hosts. Do we really think that people would be doing camshows on it if that weren't the case?

I think everyone is overthinking what is just a natural progression of the worlds oldest profession.

Heaven forbid that people doing sex work can control their output and income.
