Re: EV Thread
It's what they tried to do with the japanese makes in the 90s, when it was obvious that the Japanese cars were significantly higher quality, more economical and cheaper than the USDM models.

Re: EV Thread
I wonder if the Chinese manufacturers can just build their factories in America instead? Apparently it's only Polestar and Lotus that will really be affected so far.
EU are going to put a 25% tariff but they're just building the factories within the EU to get around it now.

My stepson started his new job for BYD yesterday. Good luck to him. He did ask my wife if I wanted one

Its because the us citizens will preach about loyalty to American made, but when all is said and done they’re the same as every country ever- loyal to their bank accounts before everything elseBeany wrote: Tue May 14, 2024 9:07 pm For being The Best In The World At Everything, the americans sure are shit scared of a little competition.
Re: EV Thread
It’s the least surprising chart in the world. Also there’s the whole we don’t want to mine metals from our ground because it’s bad from the environment but we still want all the modern tech which is long term good for the environment so let’s just get it from China instead who source it from very questionable methods.

They are trying to protect their domestic product, why would anyone question that ?
Hundreds of thousands of jobs and economies rely on the American car industry.
I wouldn’t buy a Chinese purely as I don’t think a milliseconds thought will be given to the second owner. Which would be people like me.

It's pretty stupid to build your economy on offshoring almost all manufacturing to china then complain that it's hurting your economy tbh.

Joe Biden himself said that a 100% tariff on China would only hurt Americans when Trump brought it up.

I'm not sure that's what he's saying. Interestingly when it comes to military stuff they're quite happy propping up companies that otherwise would fail, to maintain capacity.

It’s a hugely emotional subject amongst Americans it seems and if they want to help the American economy then why wouldn’t they do it.
You certainly will never beat them on price otherwise.

Drove to France in the Leaf for half term, down to near Bressuire so 430 miles, a bit of tootling around visiting stuff then 430 miles back. Did a few stops each way (which the kids needed anyway) and no real time pressure, no broken chargers, the supposedly obsolete CHAdeMO standard available everywhere, Octopus Electroverse card worked on everything I tried including the 7kw post in the village we stayed in.
Tesla or something would have been better/quicker but it got it done. Cost half of what the Stepwagon would have in petrol, and I was quoted £120 just for a week of Euro breakdown cover for it (the Leaf has it already).
Nice easy trip. In something that charges at >150kw it would be an absolute breeze.

A bit sad that we can't even get the contract for our own capitals buses.
I still don't get why they don't make all police cars from cars produced here - or even carried on making Rovers (or insert another failed British car company) as police cars rather than spending our money on more stuff paying wages of people in other countries.
There are a few things I agree with USA on.

Re: EV Thread
Yep that is piss poor. And that’s before we get into security concerns. The whole transition to a green economy has been a piss poor exercise in moving what little manufacturing we had over to China.
