My parking in the BMW is terrible because I don't have front sensors. Sigh, need to find the corners again.

Front sensors are for girls (he says, with his car booked into the paint shop on Monday for the front bumper scuff).

I love parallel parking - I’ll happily choose a smaller spot to be 10m closer to my destination.

Oh, I used to be fine at it in the Puma, but I did get used to having front and rear on the Mondeo (and it having generous limits, too).

The rear sensors on the BMW are calibrated to leave quite a lot less space I reckon!

I pulled up in the X5 with the caterham on the trailer and in one take reversed it 90 degrees, threaded it through my gate posts that have about 2" spare each side and straight up my drive. An old geezer delivering leaflets came over and told me how impressed he was. It was a complete and utter fluke though.

This is probably the one I was most proud of.

The American cars are hilarious, they panic and self brake when they have 1 metre left. Also physically won’t drive through a gap if they have less than half a metre gap either side. Like approaching a multi story car park. Then having to spend a few minutes going through the menus frantically to try and disable it. But the Americans are thicker still so it makes sense.

Front sensors are for girls

I think front sensors are allowed, they’re in the same league of usefulness as reversing cameras. It’s self parking thingy that’s for girls

New car has self braking from the sensors, lets you get pretty close before stopping you, when it kicks in it feels awful, like you’ve crunched into something out of view or badly kerbed a wheel. When I picked the car up the guy showing off the features proudly declared it had already saved him twice, rather than being impressed I just thought it’s fantastic that he’d already nearly crashed it twice.......
