Italian Poplar

Post by mik »

Have been borderline obsessed with this substance since I first saw it. Crap building material as it’s not strong - burnt in the past as it was considered junk, but if there is a more beautiful wood - I haven’t seen it.

Had the option to get a poplar/resin table - which did look immense - but opted for a natural “wild edged” piece instead. Pics just don’t do it justice, and I have spent at least 10 mins feeling it up tonight. Borderline illegal I suspect. Fabulous.

We had a thread about bucket list items recently - that doesn’t really qualify here - but as an item I’ve wanted to own for 15+ years….. yup.

That is a lovely table, simple legs letting the wood do the work 😎

Very lovely, and good choice to avoid the resin version, I can foresee wood/resin tables aging awfully, whereas a simple slab of beautiful wood is timeless.

Specialist furniture place not far from Stirling makes them. He bought 6 trees a couple of years ago and is working through them.

Will PM you.

I love to hear when people have a 'random' passion for a specific item or material and then get to realise it

Good work sir

I prefer a Fiesta Poplar, but that does look quite nice.

To close this one out - just picked up a matching side table that we commissioned when we bought the coffee table (that was on display).

Manufactured from the same tree, but he decided to join two pieces to avoid us having only one ”wild” edge.

Not pictured in the living room - it was easier to photograph on a non-wood floor.

Very happy with that (and it also currently smells amazing)
