Very, very confusing. Watched it in two sittings as I fell asleep first time round although that's not the film's fault.

The lead is fantastic, carrying the whole film, and the plot leaves you guessing with no obvious outcome.

I do hope the portrayal of the functioning of the French justice system isn't true/correct though.

15/20 aspirin tablets.
I really enjoyed that movie, Sandra Hüller was amazing as the lead.

Was a bit disturbed about the dog "acting" after the visit to the vets though, that sure looked like a dog which had been sedated!
Cheers,

Mike.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare - a slightly comedic take on a real life WWII special forces mission, so based on a true story. It’s directed by Guy Ritchie whose style suits this perfectly. It’s also got more than a hint of Tarantino about it and is a wonderful, fun romp (strange to say given the subject matter). Definitely feels similar in tone to some of the BBC series Rogue Heroes. As with that one, google the real life operation after you’ve watched it and marvel at the bravery of those involved.

Been watching the Bourne movies again, the first three are still excellent. Not sure that I've seen the later ones so I'll be watching them over the next couple of days.

(I started watching this (too late) one evening mrs mik had gone for an early night. I then couldn't continue watching it with her in the room, so it took me about 5 sessions to get through it! It's one on mrs mik's list however, so I will see it all again in one go).

I enjoyed this too. The pace. The way it pulled your mind in different directions in relation to the incident. The language jumping. Agree with comments about both Hüller and about the dog. I was thinking at the end "I hope he got an award for this", and..... he did! 8-)

From wiki "Messi (born 4 April 2016) is a French Border Collie dog actor, known for his role as Snoop in the 2023 film Anatomy of a Fall, for which he won multiple awards, including the Palm Dog Award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival."

80 ml of dog vomit out of 100.

edit: Adding a youtube link as a spoiler - please don't watch this before watching the film

Watched The Bounty over the last couple of nights. I like old navy films and this had passed me by.

Captain is removed and set adrift after shenanigans.

The cast though….
Anthony Hopkins
Mel Gibson
Liam Neeson
Laurence Olivier
Neil Morrisey
Daniel Day Lewis
Bernard Hill
Dexter Fletcher
Phil Davis

For a movie of its time it was very good. A bit melodramatic in places but really enjoyed it.

We watched The Fall Guy last night. It was utter nonsense but charming and entertaining. Just go with it and you'll enjoy it.

As much as I like his taciturn ultraviolence with Nicolas Winding Refn, Ryan Gosling is at his best in goofy comedies imo.

Yeah, he was very entertaining and is clearly having an absolute blast in everything he does just now.

Land of Bad

Special forces chap gets dropped at last minute into a behind enemy lines op that goes sideways

Obvious, brain-out, splosions everywhere

Just kept thinking that Bat-21 was much better in this kind of "trying to rescue a guy from behind enemy lines" kind of thing

Carrying on with the awards list, tonight we watched American Fiction (Prime).

It was brilliant with an astonishing cast. As intended the protagonists main point was played out in the story with both clarity and a dignified sparseness that made it very elegant.

I especially liked the way they portrayed the writing of the book.

8.5/10 panderings.

Surprised nobody has mentioned it on here, I watched Race for Glory Audi vs Lancia as it's on Netflix.

Hard to give it a rating really, the acting is atrocious and no doubt they really butchered the true events, but I just enjoyed it because of the period cars and scenery. No doubt they were mostly reps, but you can't beat watching 037s ragging it around... compared to most films I thought the continuity of the driving scenes in terms not shifting up a million times etc wasn't bad either.

Yeah I watched it, thought the same as you, the acting was shit although I did enjoy the 037 Homologation bit but just the rally cars being ragged kept me interested enough.

As a car nerd you're kinda obliged to watch these kinds of movies in the hope that they'll make more/better ones. But I did enjoy it anyway, despite its flaws.
