I’d like my Triglycerides to come down a bit but otherwise no.
All the men in my family have had heart issues or died from heart attacks. All did physical jobs and all had a crap diet. Too many carbs, too much veg oils (fried) and too much processed food. I’m a big believer in your body responds well to what it wants. I’d have a double decadence meat feast pizza to myself and virtually have a hangover the next day.
When I have carbs I get bloated.
When I have loads of veg I’m bloated and hungry 2 hours later.
There are currently no downsides but I’ll keep taking my bloods.
I do cheat with beer but if I stick with a couple on special
Occasions, I seem to be fine.
Plus, I eat however much I want which when you’re a fatty boom boom is bloody lovely.

I went through a period of eating little but red meat and I definitely lost a few pounds, but I'm also fucking idle (IE I work fully remote, so don't get much 'day to day' exercise) so I should probably do a mix of that and some regimented exercise and see where it goes.
My diets been trash the last year and I've not been exercising and I've bloated the fuck up

Like I say it's not for me, the way you describe how you feel after carbs is exactly what happens with me and meat. I feel bloated, sick and if I'm really lucky I'll get the shits.
I would be worried about heart health as well tbh. My family don't have a great history with it either, my mum died of a heart condition when she was about the same age as I am now.

The bloat thing is strange as if you only eat red meat, bloat shouldn’t happen unless you are allergic in some way. I can put on 4lb overnight if I eat a plate of chips as it makes me retain a load of water. My weight doesn’t fluctuate past 2lb up and down now.ZedLeg wrote: Tue May 21, 2024 3:12 pm Interesting.

If your body likes it, keep doing what you do but inflammation and joint pain are big red flags for me.

I have been struggling with my joints and recovery the last couple of weeks. I am tempted; however, there's no serious long-term evidence about the health impacts of the carnivore diet (e.g. full life-span from population-level data), and based on current evidence, it presents a major risk for cancer once you're 50+. I don't doubt people's experiences such as Dave's, and there are many people on social media who seem to thrive on the carnivore diet. There are equally as many (and undoubtedly many more who are unheard) who have tried it and suffered badly, or felt awful on it. I reckon it's Marmite, definitely not a diet for everyone and also cripplingly bad for the environment.
The carnivore community on social media make Scientolgists appear lackadaisical in their zealotry so the diet appears to offer more salvation than the second coming of christ when you start researching it.

The problem with carnivore stuff is that they class red meat in the same category as fast food, even the NHS do. Which is mad considering the chemicals and crap put in fast food and the lack of it in quality red meat.
The biggest thing with a diet is it has to work for you, if it’s healthy or not doesn’t matter if you have no desire to eat the food.

What they certainly shouldn’t do is sell an app saying they are natural. I’ve also no problem with it, they are doing it for a role and it’s part of their job. There are plenty of papers suggesting that red meat (as opposed to processed meat) is linked to cancer, which is widely accepted by the scientific and medical world. However, I'm aware that the carnivore community have their rebuttals to these claims. I'm not going to do a full literature review of the totality of evidence because I don't have a spare few weeks and I'm quite past arguing about nutrition on the internet. Like all things in food, there are rarely any absolutes which muddies the waters due to the highly individual nature of our body's reactions to different foods. That's why if carnivore works for you then great, you might be someone who it's good for. Ironically McDonalds have one of the tightest supply chains for their 100% beef patties, safer and more reliable than much of the ground beef in the supermarkets. Although of course there's plenty of fast food that doesn't have similar standards. And as for NHS or government guidance on food it's probably one of the least effectual pathways to helping people eat better food because nobody looks at the eatwell guide when deciding how to eat healthily.
@Mito Man Processing is considered in four categories as per the NOVA classification. NOVA1 is unprocssed, e.g.raw meat, vegetables, fruit, fish, eggs. While cooking it is a 'process' it's not considered to have any detrimental effects at that point. Simply by cooking it doesn't push it into NOVA3 which is the 'processed' category. NOVA2 is minimal processed culinary ingredients, which are things that have been ground, dried, extract etc, such as oils, flours, honey, sugar. You can make a really healthy fresh wholefood diet from category 1 and 2. NOVA3 is processed food which is a combination of a few ingredients from groups 1 and 2 to make an edible food, such as sourdough bread, pickles, salted nuts, cheese etc. NOVA4 is ultra processed which are food-like substances that contain lots of ingredients, many of which are of industrial nature and wouldn't be found in a supermarket or home kitchen. This covers basically everything that's highly advertised, with exciting branding and most ready-to-eat foods.

Even buying regular beef can be a pain, we went to a cash and carry and the burger patties were 51% beef, some steaks we had were very tough and shrank a lot and some bacon we bought it turned out to have a smoked flavouring on as a liquid, which tasted so un-natural we didn’t even throw it to the dogs, we binned it.
I don’t know how much fast food affected it but one thing I read said that after the healthy food reccomend actions in the US in the 70s, heart disease tripled. I’ve been trying to find the article but am struggling.
Whatever the outcome it’s surprising how much food is buggered about with.
