TWR (Lazarus version)

Post by mik »

TWR appear to be "back", but in the "hey lets create an expensive restomod" sense, rather than at the sharp end of motorsport with road car spinoffs.

Markus Walker involved.

Perception thus far = meh.

It sounds like an initiative that someone with too much spare money decided was a good idea without doing any market research. I mean, is there even a market for a massively overpiced Jag?

Eagle seem to do alright out of it.

Not saying anything about the viability of this business but I think there's space for someone to do decent restomods on BL era Jags, the cars are cool.

Retropower have already done a few and Harry Metcalfe's XJ coupe of course.

Would be better if it looked more like this.

They have inexplicably chosen to feature Alan Moore prominently in the advertising shots, rather than the car.

(and ironically the pumped arches are much more reminiscent of Lister than TWR - image shows LeMans from 1986).

I would love a tastefully resto-modded XJS, I do not love that however.

I'm thinking more Alfaholics, and less Mansory.

The earlier XJSs are so much cooler than those late ones. I never liked that 90s facelift.

This veehickle was most recently discussed on the Harry's Garage fred.

Jethro's is the first drive I've seen. (And I've not watched it yet).

Is it just me or are the wheels filling the arches less convincingly than they appeared to in the early static shots?

That actually works better in motion than it does static.

Also it looks more brutally cyberpunk than the Cybertruck.

I'm less dismissive of it now, sounds like they've put the effort in. I'm still not entirely sure who the audience is, but I assume they have one. People who grew up in the 70s/80s, did well in finance and are now having a monster mid-life crisis?
