Motorway Mile Munchers

What's good out there? My dad wants something to waft in doing 25,000 miles a year. Preferably something which has done most of its depreciation, Euro 6, probably a diesel. Ruled out a 7 series because it's too ugly, no S Class because he doesn't want to look like an Uber. Current generation A8 depreciate more than any other car and make an attractive used buy although looking at the pre-facelift ones they had buggy software which Audi never fixed. Also likes the XJ but maybe getting a bit too old now. Then again maybe not a bad thing, he's swears and gets worked up whenever he drives something and the modern safety tech starts chiming but I think anything over 2 years old won't have all the speed limit and lane departure nonsense.

Apparently a Bentley Mulsanne is not a sensible choice

How about a last of the line S Class Coupe? Not a hint of uber but does the job.

Last of the line Mondeo Vignale?

It's a motorway hack for doing 500 miles a week in, not an event car etc. New enough to not shit itself every five minutes like a Phaeton etc, comfy enough to not be a chore on the shitty road network we have left. There's no reason to get too fancy.

All of his current cars do teens mpg, this is what he's trying to get away from. Apart from the Tesla, but it's not very comfortable and new longer journey would require charging mid journey which he doesn't want.
He did also bring up a 8 series, also diesel

Given the bottom of the depreciation curve for S class coupes is about 10 pence (20pence for a sporty one) I'd say that's got a way to fall...

At the weekend I had a search for him, apparently the most comfortable car currently on sale is the new Citroen C5X, sent him the link to the review and he said he'll be travelling in the back of a hearse long before he ever steps foot in one of those So no Citroens.

But I can see his point I drove a Passat Estate in black for a year and that was a Hearse

A large Volvo would therefore be my second choice in terms of comfort - S80 maybe or even an S90 if his budget stretches ??

I had a passenger ride in a 3.0TD one of these with a taxi company last year and it was such a great place to be.

Wonderful ride, really smooth gearbox and the dash at night was lovely. I don’t know when they were made till though.

There is a burgundy one with cream leather I see regularly and it’s a big old thing but really smart looking.

Volvo S90 if he can cope with a 4-cylinder engine.
730d isn’t too ugly if you go for the pre-facelift version before the gopping grille was added.
6-series Gran Coupe?

For mile munching only the Volvo of the above will come with active cruise/lane assist which makes a massive difference to the driver.
