Road Safety Video that isn't condescending
Road Safety Video that isn't condescending
Played as an advert on a Carfection Youtube video

I thought it was pretty good. I was waiting for the "Speed kills Motoring enthusiasts are the devil" message but it never arrived.

Do you slow down for clearly sighted junctions though? I do it for blind ones round bends for obvious reasons but I wouldn’t bother on that long straight.
How about not having a sig at all?

When I’m on my bike, if there’s a car thats just pulled up at a side junction with the potential to pull out, I’d definitely assume the worst until I was sure he’d seen me.

I like that.
Love the scenery on that Glencoe stretch, but you do spend most of the time holding back.

Midges midges midges midges
You can't say you haven't been warned.
A good film that, and the live fast die old line, encouraging you to go there and enjoy it rather than sucking all the fun out

Long winded way of saying a simple thing though. I didn’t get what the whole midges, midges, midges crap was about.
Re: Road Safety Video that isn't condescending
There are midges in Scotland.
Re: Road Safety Video that isn't condescending
Yep, plus as they're approaching the junction there's a moving blind spot that's easy to end up in - and they pull out because they think all is clear.Rich B wrote: Wed Aug 22, 2018 7:17 am When I’m on my bike, if there’s a car thats just pulled up at a side junction with the potential to pull out, I’d definitely assume the worst until I was sure he’d seen me.
Good example here: https://singletrackworld.com/2018/01/co ... -cyclists/ (annoyingly some pictures are broken - they're all here: https://gigazine.net/gsc_news/en/201801 ... -cyclists/ )
Roadcraft also has a good section about assessing other vehicles approaching junctions - how aggressively they're pulling up, are they looking, etc to determine how concerned you should be and thus what action (if any) to take.

I guess it’s a different mentality on a bike and you have to assume that everyone is an idiot.
In a car slowing down would lead to a slow car potentially pulling out and then having your progress hindered until you can pull off an overtake so I don’t slow.

yeah, it’s a fine line between being prepared for an idiot pulling out on you and looking like you’re actually encouraging them to pull out.Mito Man wrote: Wed Aug 22, 2018 9:41 am I guess it’s a different mentality on a bike and you have to assume that everyone is an idiot.

Fixed further. Actively would mean they were doing something - ANYTHING - on purpose.Mito Man wrote: Wed Aug 22, 2018 9:41 am I guess it’s a different mentality on a bike and you have to assume that everyone is passively trying to kill you.

That might be the case in the UK actually, people seem to get very offended with other road users on their roads.
Here, the issues are ignorance, distraction and stupidity, in ascending order, but it's never on purpose as such. That would involve putting their phones down.
