Came here to post that one, the comments are a joke! How can people honestly say the cyclist was at fault?!? She was even wearing hi viz!

On the other hand, jail time for that does seem heavy handed.

There must of been other aggravating factors to elevate beyond just a ban for driving, such as previous convictions (especially that are related) or breaking terms of bail or court order.

I feel a degree of sympathy for the chap; in a world where seeing arrogant cockwombles drive dodgely and getting away with it is a daily occurrence, it could be the only driving error he's made and he hurts someone, doesn't get away with it or even just have a minor bump with another vehicle.

No self preservation and stunt riding would make it his fault in the eyes of insurance over here. And the police would probably prosecute for dangerous driving. Truck might get without due care and attention too

This is assuming the wagon catches due to slowing bike rather than speeding up truck. If that’s the case truck driver wants doing for trying to kill him

That particular video shows the problem cyclists suffer. The truck just crosses a give way line and nobody seems to care. If he'd been coming to a crossroads where he didn't have priority and a car had had to stop for him, nobody would explain it away as 'committed to the manouevre' or whatever.

Drive round Amsterdam where all the roads are laid out with cycle lanes alongside like that and within 5 minutes you'd be well aware that you do not have priority when crossing the cycle lane. Exactly as here.

The cyclist stopped anyway, so there's no fault to apportion because there was no coming together. But the lorry should have given way.

I largely agree Simon. The lorry is technically in the wrong, although most of us would probably have just pulled up and given him space to finish the manouvre.

Hilarious that the top comment is "have you driven an articulated lorry greg?" as if all cyclists should now get an HGV licence before they're allowed to criticise lorry drivers. How many lorry drivers cycle around central London during rush hour I wonder?

If someone got hurt I'm sure the driver would be apportioned some blame but he's indicated and started turning at a green light at least 50m in front of the cyclist. To plough on at 4x or more the speed of a turning vehicle is confrontational at best, it seems reckless to me. We're all using the same bit of road and it would have been far safer and easier to just reduce his speed to avoid being in the same space!

Being right doesn't make you an accomplished road user. I find it scary how many of these videos are appearing with cyclists condemning other road users under the pretence of being right or new rules lol
