I just don't get who'd buy it?

That was my initial view, but if you are in the market for a Tesla Model S/X, Taycan, BMW iX or any of the large EVs it has a cool badge, is well engineered (and looks pretty good to my eyes but I appreciate that is subjective) while being cheaper. If the efficiency wasn't so bad it would be a genuine class leader.

does being a bit cheaper really matter at this end of the market? I expect the monthly payments are probably about the same.

With the efficiency, will anyone be doing their research on it if they just want the newest badge to impress the neighbours? I don't think that'll stop them.

I think it won't sell because the general public equate lotus with reliability issues, and unless you have a local dealer (of which there aren't many) are going to be a ballache.

The sensible thing would be to shoehorn Lotus in with Volvo similar to what they did with Polestar but the only Lotus dealer in Kent is sharing a space with MG which doesn't seem like the best marketing

I wonder why there's no badging on the rear? A few cars are doing that simple strip light at the back, to the point where its now a "thing" and the lack of a badge or unique styling mean I've no idea what some of these cars actually are as they're starting to all look the same from certain angles.

Having seen a couple of pretty much undisguised Macan EV pictures, I don't think it's going to do all that well. Anyone who wanted an EV Porsche has a Taycan already and the values are tanking with oversupply. Plenty of people (like me) have jumped in and bought an ICE Macan before it goes out of production and there is no love for the EV version on the Macan forums. The EV's looks aren't any sort of leap forward.

The Lotus Mayfair dealer won’t have space there for servicing (just like every other dealer in Mayfair/Park Lane). They tend to have service centres out of town but that’s only for really big jobs. Most things they come home to you.

I'm not sure the shop unit in a mall sales outlets have servicing either. Takes me back to Daewoo's UK launch when the official service network was Halfords.

the Taycan is ridiculously HUGE though and not particularly practical/family friendly. I expect that puts off plenty of people.

An EV macan would suit an awful lot more people who want a normal sized car thats more premium than a Kia or even an Audi. I'm not surprised that Macan forums (sounds awful) don't have any love for the new version of the car they are so nerdy about that they've joined a forum for them!

All the big dealers in Bluewater/Westfield have large dedicated areas in the underground carparks, and special bays for prepping new cars and respraying/repairing damage from shipping. Just not enough space for after sales service.

It's an insurance issue - no underwriter will cover servicing being carried out in car parks without a massive premium, whereas cosmetics fall under the 'car park valet' category.

The range is a sliding scale on some of these EVs. It's totally fictitious and over reads at 100%, somewhat accurate at 50% and then very accurate below 30%. You can thank Tesla for starting that trend.

I can quite imagine people believing the display and boasting about it without checking reality. At least ye olde cars with range display I had based it on the last x miles you'd driven, not just a theoretical number based on the highest NEDC figure.

At least the Countach is worth more than he paid for the work on it. The Jag and Lancia won’t be.

I hate how the front of this looks, tiny headlights, massive grill and that piss poor integration of the radar unit - come on, a 10 year old VW Golf has its radar unit nicely hidden in the lower grill but this £100k BMW has that fucking rectangle of plastic right in the centre of the front grill

Still hate that massive instrument screen which is just a massive LCD slab and all the angles going on around it, what a mess.

Also for some unfathomable reason the lower back end on all the i5 variants is a mess. The regular 5 series which doesn’t even have a visible exhaust (I think that’s first for a 5 series) is pretty clean
