Lambo Huracan

Post by Jobbo »

Harry Metcalfe's video of the Sterrato yesterday got me thinking: while I'd love one, a normal Huracan has the lovely engine and must be quite a sensible supercar purchase with some Audi R8 commonality. So I had a look at Auto Trader and the cheapest is just under £120k; the cheapest without black wheels is £130k. For a 10yr old car, that doesn't look like where the value is when a 2017/2018 car is £10-15k more. That's for a 610; the 640 (which I think came with a minor facelift or lots of special editions at any rate) seems to start at about £170k and was introduced in late 2019.

I have no plans to spend £120k let alone £170k on a car, but if there is a proper softening of the supercar market then maybe these will become more affordable. I certainly have a bit of a desire for one with the intention of keeping it long term. Anyone have any knowledge of them? I don't think I've ever really seen them discussed on here.

I seem to remember that the seats got slated for being horribly uncomfortable in the early reviews (may have had some kind of sports seats in the press car though). I am surprised they haven't dropped a bit more than that.

Still look great to me. Get one!

Found a PH buying guide from September 2020 - which was probably close to the low point of prices before the boom - where the cheapest was £120k: https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-buy ... uide/43036

Doesn't make them look good value in 2023. A 2017 Audi R8 V10 is £70k or so; basically half the price for substantially the same thing. I don't have a great yearning for the R8 though, but the price difference makes the Lambo such bad value that I couldn't buy one. Oh well, resolved that easily

We've already seen softening, luxury cars I'm watching are down 15-20% over the last 6 months, but dealer seems to be willing to ride out the storm so are holding.

I don't see that much more of a rapid decline, but I may be surprised. I dont think you'll see 120k cars dropping to 70k though

Not at that price range, but I ditched the idea of the R8 after hanging around the Facebook groups for a while. Too many hex plates and arm sleeves for me.....can imagine finding a good one would be a nightmare.

Surely the Huracan is just a new Gallardo, so at some point you'll get a Huracan for current Gallardo money? :? Maybe I'm oversimplifying it.

There's a big gulf in the market between Gallardo and Huracan because of the double clutch transmission being phased in for the later car. That's really pumped up the values of the early Huracans and the exactly same has happened to the 458 Italia versus the 430 - they've basically refused to ever drop below £100k and are currently not depreciating.

As Simon said, neither look great value right now.

You said it already @Jobbo but I'd choose the R8 over the Lambo

I think I'd just feel a bit of a prat driving a Lambo

I think an early Huracan in a subtle colour looks great; I’m not sure if I’d still look a prat driving one like that.

The only reason I’d choose an R8 over a Huracan is on value grounds and that is no basis for buying a supercar. But I also have a sensible head and therefore I’m probably never buying one 😂

Surely your line of work is one of the few - alongside financial advisors - where clients *want* you to be in a Lambo?

I'm aware you're not criminal, but if my lawyer turns up in an R8 I know I'm walking free. Turns up in a Diesel Yaris? I'm straight on Amazon buying soap on a rope.

I'd have a lambo all day long (I'd have an equal price gallardo over an R8). I don't care about looking a prat - there's just something fun and appealing about Lamborghinis.

I like both, but given the choice it's the Lambo every time, ideally in a bright colour. 8-)

Just do it @Jobbo, YOLO. I'm sure you can find another £40k down the back of the sofa. ;)

Mclarens are common as muck round here - nothing beats a Lamborghini for drama and appeal for me. If you're going to get a super car that makes everyone think you're a prick, make sure it's a loud coloured lambo and enjoy every second.

The chap on my road who was a long term & serial 911 owner chopped in his 991 GT3 for a 570s back in May. In October he ditched the the 570s for a 991 GTS. He didn't even put up with it for six months. Their reputation is deserved.

I think most McLarens are more dramatic than a subtle Huracan. But after some research it seems the Huracan is getting a reputation as the reliable supercar. McLarens have a bit of a mountain to climb. The prices look very good value until you get into that.

Friend of a friend has one. It’s spent more time with McLaren than him. He forgives it every time he takes to to a track though apparently

Bit like my relationship with the Elise and why i keep eyeing up 981 porsches. Its noisy (90db on the motorway) not particularly comfortable and ive spent a fortune on it. But everytime it enters a track all is forgiven and i think to myself id need a GT4 to come anywhere close to this.

ETA - Talking about that FTAO @dan Do you know if i can get solid discs for the S3? Keep cracking the drilled one's.

I'm convinced that ever since Audi did that advert with the shouty wanker saying it's not his kind of car, Audi has taken over from BMW as the brand of choice for shouty wankers.
