I drove around looking for it last night, but got caught up in the crowds around the Bermondsey beer mile, so gave in.
When I found it this morning, I did hang around for a while, and then started to write a ‘strongly worded’ note, but thought better of it!

If you’re the sort of person that drives like a loon at night while taking nitrous oxide and drinking beer, hit a car, then drive away and hide it against a wall in a pretty well hidden council garage block, it’s probably not worth hanging around to reason with them…

What was more concerning to my wife is we should have been putting the kids in the car when this happened (it was outside my FIL’s apartment, but the kids decided that they wanted to sleep over as we were leaving, so I was delayed for a few minutes and left on my own.

Ask about for any cctv or dashcam footage, someone might have something which could at least pin down the vehicle reg which would give you an insurance policy to claim against and possibly a driver identification to chase up for leaving the scene of an accident. If you have evidence then the police may suddenly become interested

Have you put the reg into askmid to see if it's insured ?

Report it to your insurance, with the reg, they'll be able to see who it's insured with and (hopefully) get something moving.

Yes, I did check and it is insured.

I’ll wait until the end of tomorrow to see if the building opposite has any cctv footage, then call my insurer. Without it you can guarantee it will not be their fault.

Mighty annoying, especially as you’ve found the car. Wouldn’t even be that hard to prove it was what hit yours, although proving who was driving might be harder? I’d assume the same as applies to getting a speeding ticket, it’s up to the owner to say or they get prosecuted.

It’s exactly the sort of thing they should investigate, next time it could well be a lot more serious. No doubt they’ll leave it a few days then claim they were the victim of a hit and run too. I have no idea how insurance databases and claims systems work, whether you could tell your insurers the reg as suspected involvement and would then trigger something if they were involved in a claim for similar damage soon after?

Well, Jim saw it happen (yes, he did, he definitely did), got the reg as it drove off, and even tracked it down and got photos of the damage that ties in exactly with the damage to the LR. That really really ought to give his insurers something solid to work with.

If saying "nah, wasn't me" in the face of that is enough to make the insurers give up, and the Police are totally fine with people crashing into other cars while drunk & high, then I think I know what I'm doing next weekend

I'd drill holes at the top of the LED taillights and pour in salt water.

LED rear lights, they ain't cheap.

Use contact adhesive. Put it on the wipers and a line down the screen at full travel so the stick in the most annoying way possible

i saw a car drive into my brand new CTR the day I got it, I reported it to the police and they didnt give a shit without an independent witness or cctv.

Hmm, but the bit at full travel will be pretty obvious. I liked the idea that - in the summer at least - they might go quite a while before noticing.

On a more productive note I fixed one of the other cars.
The Compact began to overheat and lost all coolant while driving round Trafalgar Square last Monday.
I nursed it to a car park in Covent Garden and carried on my day riding a Lime bike.
Went back at 11pm, saw it was leaking out of the rad, put 7 litres of water in and drove as gently home as possible.

I took the rad out last night -
