Driver got 6 points…
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
I'd say that's probably less than 1.5m passing distance, but that seems pretty harsh.
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
That’s fucking ridiculous.
How about not having a sig at all?

6pts seems fairly harsh given that there are plenty of offences that seem to carry a lower tarriff and many twonks that don't cop for anything at all.
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
The comments mentioned he declined a fixed penalty and 3 points to have his day in court.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2023 1:06 pm 6pts seems fairly harsh given that there are plenty of offences that seem to carry a lower tarriff and many twonks that don't cop for anything at all.
It is harsh but he may have already had a course hence the fixed penalty option and then declined this!
Its just how it is now, i wouldn't have overtaken before the pinch point.

Moped was riding like an impatient dick delivery driver. And that cat is going to have serious problems if he continues wobbling around town with her in the front basket
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
Is he taking the cat to the Vet?
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
It's normal in town that multiple bikes or mopeds will use the same lane - cyclist stops (pretty much) in the middle of the lane (so other road users might expect they are planning to go straight ahead), but then drifts over to the right of the lane to turn right without indicating. Moped was impatient and a dick for just pushing through, but it's possible they were caught off guard by his turn.

Are you expecting him to indicate that he's losing his balance?mik wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2023 3:20 pmIt's normal in town that multiple bikes or mopeds will use the same lane - cyclist stops (pretty much) in the middle of the lane (so other road users might expect they are planning to go straight ahead), but then drifts over to the right of the lane to turn right without indicating. @Carlos eventually, yes, when he gets into a bigger crash and the cat gets splatted and he will be crying about it on social media.
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
That was my point - he's positioned himself a little to the right of the centre of his lane, but he's not exactly over to the right. At the end the moped driver goes straight ahead, so I suspect he was assuming that the cyclist was going to do the same rather than steer right as soon as he gets moving (and eventually turning right).Gavster wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2023 4:04 pm
the cyclist is on the right hand side of the road and at an ASL - which is there to give him space to manouvre when the lights change.
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
I saw that earlier and was so worried for the cat, I couldn't bear to see it again. I really don't want to hear about how it's been run over.

Perhaps our opinions differ because I know that junction really well, it's around the corner from my old uni, and there's no way that a cyclist would position themselves where he was, if their intention was to go straight on. There's even a cycle lane on the LHS of the road as you approach the junction which keeps cyclists to the left. It's a wide junction too, easily two lanes wide at the ASL, meaning he had to move a couple of car widths across from the cycle lane to reach his position. For him to position himself on the road in that place was a very clear intention to turn right, and anyone behind him would have seen that too.mik wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2023 4:16 pmThat was my point - he's positioned himself a little to the right of the centre of his lane, but he's not exactly over to the right. He's not a fucking chameleon with independent eyes that can look backwards.
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
That’s why before pulling away you check your mirrors or have a quick look behind, I always did on the bike especially when cutting across from whatever position I’m in.
He cycled and veered right, if he had cycled straight it would be no problem at all. Lifesaver checks are for a reason in busy junctions or changing positions.

It's like all these things, why bet your life (or your cats life) on everyone around you getting everything right or interpreting the road and your movements in the same way? You don't have to be a chameleon because we have a head and eyes that can turn and swivel in lots of directions.
I still look both ways when crossing a one way road, I'm not gambling my survival on someone else not making a mistake.

How can a cyclist turn right at the junction AND cycle straight on at the same time? If he cycled straight on he'd either be sat in the middle of the carriageway, or miss his turning?
The moped overtook a road user who was positioned to turn right at a junction, as far as I can see that's quite simply a big no-no.

bet I do. I ride around london fairly often and If there's a gap of any kind next to me, then I'll look to make sure it's not being taken before I move into it.Jobbo wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 8:41 am I bet neither of you do a life saver before turning right at traffic lights![]()
I ride fairly aggressively and prefer to control my own space rather than hoping others will give me some room. Assuming will get you run over.
