Cheapest insurance? (Now purchased)
Re: Cheapest insurance?
I think the quotes are reasonable, £500 of that is just the typical London surcharge.
How about not having a sig at all?

Sounds like you need to move!
Re: Cheapest insurance?
Classic car insurance is often cheap, as are Caterham and other kit cars IIRC.
Probably a garage is needed though... I'm not sure, I've never tried without.

Re: Cheapest insurance?
Moving is on the cards at some point, although I don't really want to rent somewhere else in London as rental prices are through the roof and my mortgage repayments are roughly the same as a room in a houseshare, and I'm sure you'll understand how being four years deep into litigation with your neighbours isn't the best USP if I wanted to sell

My wife's smart is renewing soon - I need to shop around as we're being quoted £800 for that

Re: Cheapest insurance? (Now purchased)
In a break from forum convention of asking for recommendations and then buying something completely different, I have now bought the cheapest to insure car, as identified in this thread.
It's currently in Sundayjumper Autowerx having a good once over and a variety of minor issue being fixed.
In the true spirit of getting something on the road for as few ££ as possible I am now the proud owner of a £510 smart car

Smartarse.
That's not a lot of £s. What age is it?

It's a 52 plate which needs a handful of things fixing for an MOT, plus has heated seats and a Panasonic [sic] roof

Luckily parts are cheap too

Does the insurance cost less than the car?

Insurance costs more than the car.
Although expecting to spend somewhere around £300 on parts for the MOT and with a new ticket the car would sell for ~£1k.

That's a fun little thing. Three of my friends have them - as well as other cars, but the Smarts get most use.
One of them has a slight issue that the windscreen isn't properly sealed and pops out a bit when closing the doors

I'm really looking forward to driving it, I've always liked their design. Also, the fact I have to park on the street in a busy neighbourhood means I'm going to be spending even less time than ever before looking for parking spaces
