Rotas were always regarded as cheap and heavy in the past. Not sure whether that has changed but yours look so much nicer, Duncs.
Mike, my Audi demanded a litre of oil at about 8k miles and I'd guess it'll need another at ~16k based on current rate of usage according to the electronic read-out of level. Adding 2l is inconvenient because they come in 1l containers so you have to get two. I guess the message is fairly standard though.
Some VWs and Audis don't use any oil, some do use it - seems to be random. My first Allroad didn't use any in 2 years, second did use it and the S6 does but neither at a particularly excessive rate. All have had the same basic V6 diesel engine. Where does it go, though?

Assuming the SELOC tech wiki is correct, even Rotas are lighter than my current wheels, and generally look competitive weight wise against anything other than the magnesium options or the TMRs. Most rota wheels are just cheap copies of decent wheels which is why they tend to get a bad rep, but the slipstream is supposed to be ok in its own right and pretty light.
I prefer Duncs ones anyway.

With regards to oil burn - may be all wrong but its my very basic understand of it - newer engines run higher pressures so there’s greater pressure to vent from the crankcase. That pressure is in the form of oil fumes which then goes from the PCV back up into the air intake and that’s how you end up with those pics of coked up intakes. I had to fit an oil separator on the F150 for preventative maintenance - it seems to pull about 50ml of oil per 1000 miles which would other wise have been burned off.
So oil burn makes sense, even if it may look excessive.
I think it’s not a visible issue on diesels as they dilute their oil.
Coolant reducing makes no sense at all and shouldn’t be happening.

Intake coking is only really a thing on petrol engines since direct injection as it means you don’t get the nice light oil fuel constantly rinsing it out of the intake ports on the head so it dries and hardens from the heat and builds up.
Modern oils are thinner to reduce friction / emissions with the byproduct that under hard use they’re easier to force through the breather system as vapour and past seals as a fines wear, which I’d assume actually increases emissions overall, just not how they’re measured when tested.
0w30 is pretty common now when 20 years ago a standard car may have used 5 or 10w40

Prosecco went downhill fast when it became trendy. Before that it was lovely, just to say sparkling, and extremely cheap to buy. We used to get one from Tesco for about £3/4 with the cork held in place with string. Now it’s mostly over fizzy, sulphite filled shite

Took the 550i for an inspection this morning, they have looked at it and it seems that the coolant is leaking internally. It's a new one for me, never heard that before and doesn't sound good. The engine needs to be stripped down, this could take until Wednesday.
They cant promise me a courtesy car until parts are ordered, they also indicated that the fix could require parts that could take some time to be delivered. Doesn't seem right to me and not a great customer experience.
The car was a keeper, after sitting in a G60 520i today, even more so. However, Ive already found myself on auto trader, looking at replacements.

What does "leaking internally" mean?
Head gasket?
E-Tron went in for some warranty work a while back, and we had to delay it pretty much 2 months if we wanted a courtesy car..... which we did... pretty poor for a company that sells cars imho.

As soon as a fault has been diagnosed and parts are ordered, they can find a car from a different pool. God knows what an internal leak is, assume head gasket which could cause all sorts of knock on issues.

550 to a 520? It'd be like losing a testicle...you don't really need it, but you'd still miss it.

Do they still have valley pipes these days? Could be that if not HG. Not sure how that tallies with the oil usage though.
