Superchargers are famously really good for fuel consumption.

I think it's a typo.
A bit like "No money down" should have read "no, Money down!"

It should read "I get 4.5 mpg (normal SLK 55 AMGs get 23.5 mpg) on long journeys, due to the supercharger"

A Cayenne GTS for £3k, just needs a minor engine repair. Looks like they've already sold the nice wheels it would have had originally.

Classic, and deliberate, Sundayjumper understatement :D

And I'm not immediately convinced it's a cracked block, you'd have to really go some to do that. Worst case, engine swap, and I just happen to have one here. In my Cayenne. Which is not a GTS but I *think* the only difference to the engine is a remap, so physically a straight swap and then sell the current one for £1k as a non runner. Makes a very cheap upgrade to a GTS...

If I don't tell the wife and drive up to Rugby tomorrow morning with the trailer while she's at work, it'll be back just after lunchtime.

Wasn't the main draw of the GTS that it was mit Manuel? I seem to remember the road test making a point about it being the driver's/sporty (if such words can be used about SUVs) choice.

Available as a manual, yes, as was the regular "S", but virtually nobody ordered them because a manual SUV is stupid.

Yes. Same 4.8 litre V8.

Further research suggests the GTS had a larger intake than the S (wich iz wot I got), and the Panny got that too, but the engines are otherwise the same.

Cachet, if you're the type that cares, or more usefully, resale value. A (running ;)) GTS is worth quite a bit more than my "S".
