That Countach colour is

Anniversary and QV had the same size wheels and tyres (rears were 345/45/15).

Anniversary wheels were fussier and uglier, and they look visually smaller due to the split-rim design. "Fussier and uglier" applies to pretty much every styling element when comparing QV and Anni for me.

The only good thing about the Anniversary is that nifty impact bumper design they carried over to the Diablo.

I’m sure the depth of the wheel and low light make it look smaller in the photo than they would in the flesh.

I agree with mik though, split rims always look smaller than the equivalent one piece, and usually need upsizing to look decent.

I don’t mind the anniversary tbh, the only bit that really irks me is the colour coded mask around the rear lights which looks especially rubbish on white ones, which a huge proportion of anniversaries seem to be.

They did the same with a lot of cars though, Diablo, esprit, 512 are three which instantly spring to mind for cheap nasty looking rear light facelifts.

In case anyone's interested I've found the (quite public) Instagram account of the current owner of the Countach. I won't name it but if you search Instagram for 'countach' and look at recent photos you'll probably find it. Looks like he's been getting a lot of use out of it since he got it a few months ago.

Yes definitely this - they're everywhere! Great to see on one hand but then bad on the other than its eradicated a lot of early 90s modern classics

Without the rear wing, it looks really off balance, visually. I've grown to accept the early cars without the wing but the Anni is all about excess so should have it.

I am amused by the thought that ICE enthusiasts are going to basically morph into the equivalent of the hells angels in 20 years time - old gnarly and scaring small children in our noisy vehicles as we go by

If you pay Bell & Colville £150 for a CoC and then make multiple attempts to contact TFL apparently eventually it's possible to get the Elise into ULEZ.

I mean there is no way that the scheme should not permit compliant cars that have been tested to enter without charge. Does the certificate of compliance scheme in theory apply to any car?

I think a lot of older petrol cars are actually compliant when tested. Apparently the BMW 8 series V8’s from the 90’s are all compliant.

I don’t know if this CoC is more nefarious and allowing any car through in exchange for a wedge of cash - not hard to fake an emissions certificate if it’s anything like the MOT process.

There was a scam where people were charging a large sum of money to make your car complaint on the tfl system but I think it was only a scam and nothing more to it.

The ML and TT both meet the ULEZ standards but the 500e and obviously Defender don’t.

Was there not a cutoff date for all the 540 petrol BMWs for meeting the ULEZ, I think I saw a Pistonheads thread on it ?

A lot of older ones just weren’t tested to the standard even though there were no mechanical changes and should easily pass them.

Some people got certificates from bmw and got their e36s marked as compliant, until they obviously cottoned on that the zero in one of the columns didn’t mean no emissions, just that that particular test wasn’t performed. So it doesn’t work any more.

Still annoys me that my compact would have to pay but 4.8l x5 and 3.5l merc are fine. I’ve never followed a petrol car whose fumes have got on my chest, even smelly old classics. It’s always Smokey diesel cars and vans so I think they were right to do something about that in urban areas.

Oh well, only 4 more years until the golf is exempt, 6 for the e30

Most of the fumes were from the old black cabs and busses anyway... Any diesel which has a DPF fitted doesn't smell and that was basically everything from 2010 onwards. They all got caught out on Nitrogen emissions I guess which is the harmful one.
