The way I see it is that Russell Brand most likely used his fame, money and charismatic aura to sleep his way around the world, whilst off hit tits. During that time, he probably had a lot of women available and overstepped consensual boundaries at times. So in that respect, yea, I think he probably is guilty. Am I surprised? Not at all. I also doubt any of it was malicious or premeditated.

Will any of this result in a conviction? No.

Also, he’s strangely uncancallable. He got quasi-cancelled 10 years ago for criticising mainstream media and telling people not to vote. That’s when all the big movies and major deals stopped happening. Since then, his work is very independent, so unless YouTube or podcast platforms ban him, he’s unlikely to actually disappear.

Indeed - I do wonder how many of the claims will make it to trial.

As far as his career goes, it doesn’t matter - he’s finished which is the concern.
is his career over? He's not really done much tv/films in the last few years anyway and he is pretty much only on YouTube with massive following anyway, most of whom will doubt any accusations I guess?

I agree with Gav. Also, he was sleeping with around 1000 women a year on average. Even if he had been entirely honourable and respectful (and I believe the victims in the show - I don’t think he was) there would have surely been a few of them who were upset by him - purely statistically. Since there appears to be a pattern of behaviour I can imagine the floodgates are going to open.

It’s OK - Russell Brand can sleep soundly. Michael Barrymore seems to be defending him on Twitter.

The Wokeariti will turn on him (remember, the accuser should never be required to provide proof. They should be taken at their word) so what does that leave him.

The Alt-Left conspiracy gang??

I think the Amber Heard case will still be ringing in their ears tbh.

Brand just isn't a big enough star these days to be easily cancelled by any one party. He's not on the brink of any multimillion pound movie deals, he's already moved from ever having that potential by solely being on YouTube for the last few years.

His decision to start attacking major news outlets and his whole “don’t vote” revolution basically got him exiled from any major deals nearly a decade ago. It’s in the hands of his followers to decide if he’s cancelled or not.

Really bored of this being front page news already. If he's broken the law, charge him, if he hasn't let's move on.

Part of the underlying issue in this country though seems to be how allegations of rape are handled by police and courts - it can be difficult for victims to even be taken seriously and the conviction rate is also very low, so often victims just don't come forward in the first place. So maybe it does take something like this for other victims to come forward and speak out.

In this case specifically though, if it's been this much of an "open secret" within comedy circles, how did he manage to continue to get work from large companies. And what does it say about the BBC and C4 etc? The whole super injunction option can also be used, so that doesn't do much to dissuade the notion that if you've got lots of money, you can basically dodge a lot of these things almost indefinitely.

There's definitely something very worrying about trial by media - which has always been the case - but seems to be a whole new level now with the influence of social media.
Cheers,

Mike.

Katherine Ryan went as public as possible with it during her Louis Theroux interview and called him out on the Comedy Roast show. He took out some sort of super-injunction to prevent the stories from spreading and gaining any traction.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

I'm amazed that after seeing how many powerful dudes routinely get away with abusing women, people will still be like "why didn't the women say anything?".

Seeing what happened to Amber Heard did a pretty good job of shutting women up too.

That's true, but it also makes me wonder why knowing this women still get involved with powerful men. It's probably a very low percentage of times it actually goes well.

Unless you're childhood sweathearts, these guys are often already used to treating women as disposable. If it was me I'd be staying well away.

Amber heard was lying though. Everyone listened to her without question for years. It was only when the trial exposed her lies that people turned. I think she was a shining example of how people DO listen to and believe the apparent victim.
