Re: Twitter
If he wanted a social media company called X which no one cared about apart from his fan boys he could have made one for peanuts surely.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Twitter
The marketing nous to bin one of the most recognisable brands in the world and replace it with the most generic symbol imaginable.
An absolute unit

I'm marketing terms, there's an idea about owning the verb
Doing the Hoovering
Posting a Tweet
WhatsApping someone
Etc
I wonder how that will play out with "X"?

Maybe it's all part of a Trumpian master plan to kill Twitter so that Truth Central becomes the preeminent social media platformJobbo wrote: Mon Jul 24, 2023 12:57 pm - Threads activity dies down a bit after the initial interest.
- Elon decides to reduce activity on Twitter by changing the name, logo and app colour so you can't find it.

Remember when Prince rebranded as ~symbol~ and we all carried on calling him Prince? Same for Twitter/X, there’s only one name for it, regardless of the logo he puts at the top of the screen

Didn't he say/mutter something about the everything app modelled on some of the Chinese ones? Can't see how he's going to achieve that by killing the platform he's got.

Yeah apparently his inspiration is WeChat, which is hilarious as WeChat was tencent trying to figure out how to make social media work for a heavily surveilled population.
A surprising inspiration for the protector of free speech. Although probably not that surprising from the guy who thought that restricting posts that were anti turkish government is still protecting free speech, as if he didn't the whole app would've been blocked.

Like when the Red lion becomes a trendy gaestro pub called the Wankemield arms or similar, it is always the red lion to the locals.Gavster wrote: Mon Jul 24, 2023 2:16 pm Remember when Prince rebranded as ~symbol~ and we all carried on calling him Prince? Re: Twitter
It somehow gets better.
Musk has decided to burn down a well known brand that's been at the forefront of popular culture for over a decade, to replace it with...
Something someone else has the trademark for. Specifically for online messaging.
That someone else being fucking Microsoft.

Microsoft, a company who pays their bills and aren't currently suing their own lawyers.
Fucking whoopsy

Re: Twitter
Now, to be clear, Musk probably knows this.
But he bought x.com back from Paypal a few years back before he lost $200bn in value and when he had serious on-hand liquid assets and could pay for serious intellectual property lawyers etc.
Twitter, currently (I believe) the effective owner of X.com under X holdings, can't even pay it's hosting bills, or its fucking rent.
Also, Musk only has X.com, what he wanted to call Paypal before he was sacked for incompetence (and after he started pissing company money on trying to put X into the name) - some context on that attempt and the horrified reaction of Paypals marketing department:
Microsoft has XBox (logo is a stylised X), DirectX (who's logo has historically be a stylised X), Excel (who's logo is an X). They have a far, far better case for brand confusion than X.com, who's logo is literally a generic unicode character.
I see nothing but positives in this for Musk.
You know, from my perspective, where I'm laughing at him making a complete tit of himself, again.
