Even though I watched it live with my Mum and her husband (he's a proper petrol head) I still record C4's coverage to keep for those nights when I can't sleep and need an F1 race to sync me off to the land of nod...

Speaking of which, some recent 'research' I've conducted on myself has concluded that as mighty as they sounded, the v10 era cars are by far the most soporific

Going back to the chat about changing Spa over the recent fatal accident etc I said that the FIA is happy having street circuits which are entirely made up of blind bends and lined with concrete barriers and no run off


Street circuits are shite anyway. They have that Tilke clown design safe boring tracks and spend hundreds of millions on that rubbish but someone just sticking barriers around a crap part of a city is good enough and most get certified as FIA Grade 1…

That's an incredibly poorly written sentence that doesn't really give any kind of meaning/clarity

Does it mean they're going fully electric but can have 30kg of fuel to generate electricity?

Does it mean they'll still be a hybrid, but can use up to 30kg of their total fuel to be diverted away from the ICE to some form of generator?

Also, they have to use that 30kg? What happens if they don't? Etc...

Nuclear powered F1 cars? That's one way to remove the option of reintroducing fuel stops. The smallest reactors weigh about 60kg (presumably they'll require some additional bits and pieces to run), but they only contain 2.5kg of nuclear fuel. Scaling to 30kg might make the cars quite heavy.

As an aside I suspect the racing would be rather boring. Not many drivers will want to risk a nuclear incident for the sake of an overtake or two.

What what I understand going off recent comments from the teams... The engines are similar architecture to what we have currently but more basic (no more MGU-H). There is much greater emphasis on the electrical side with much greater energy regeneration and deployment. Close to 500BHP from the electrical deployment vs 160 currently but they'll still be down on power overall. Much bigger battery pack. Fully synthetic fuel.

Current concerns are races will be very much an energy management fest (this is already a problem however the tyres crap out first)...

They should go for the best of both worlds- synthetic fuelled twin turbo V10 hybrids

Open rules I say - 1000bhp, 110kg of fuel per race, $20 million for the entire powertrain development + components used per season.

I feel like WAG just ruin everything. We had the whole promoting diesels, then the diesel Le Mans years, then screwing over everyone with the emissions scandal, then the lean years at Le Mans with no real competition, then they come into F1 but ask for these crap rules... Hoping that the Audi is the most uncompetitive turd that gets lapped 3 times each race until they quit.

Looks like it's about time for the "let's pretend we give a crap about the environment" lobbyists to come out again.
So now Q1 must be done on hard tyres, Q2 on medium and Q3 on softs. Will safe a few thousand sets of tyres a year and take however many lorries off the road. All fine then.
How about we bin a bunch of the crap tracks then chaps and go back to a 16 race calendar? That'll save more emissions than getting a few lorries off the road. And I can't imagine how much Co2 is used to set up all those temporary street circuits only to disassemble them a week later.
And while you're at it maybe Pirelli can just make some tyres which are less shit, could probably get away with having just 2 dry compounds then. Ta.

I must say I wasn’t expecting much this weekend, one of the most boring tracks usually but at least Sunday is worth watching now.
Also Sky having the kids on - they genuinely seem to know more than the regular pundits (Ex F1 drivers and Danica excluded) and make less mistakes.

So some interesting stuff coming out. And there’s no smoke without fire.
Last time out at Silverstone after the race the Red Bull car had a thorough going over by the FIA to check it’s legality - that can be standard procedure or can come about from a team voicing concerns.
Now we see an upgraded Red Bull this weekend which is quite a bit slower relatively to other cars and it is not enjoying its DRS straight line advantage.
Hamilton in particular pointing the latter out repeatedly as if he’s trying to say something but not yet allowed to comment on it.
